BBC 1 Imagine...Now , by Bram on Nov 21, 2007 16:59:36 GMT 1, Done a bit of geeky research on google trends. If you have never looked at google trends it basically lists the most popular searches on google and then breaks it down per region, day / year etc. One of the interesting facilities is a comparison option. By putting a comma between two words or names you can get a graph of the data (sorry if this is keeping you awake)
Anyway go to google trends and type in Damien Hirst,Banksy and I think it speaks volumes.
www.google.com/trends?q=Damien+Hirst%2Cbanksy
You can also break this down into different countries / cities.
Interesting stuff and vindicates earlier posts re: popularity. Also good to compare to other artists or words i.e is banksy bigger than Jesus ?
Sorry about this, train spotting is beckoning zzzzzzz

Thats quite good... if you drill into the UK data and then look at just the last 30 days it shows the search is very much a "weekend thing"... especially for England and (slightly less so for) Scotland... but what the hell is going on in Wales?

Funnily enough Banksy is on par with ladders, ladders were well in the lead until about September last year during the Banksy peak, since then ladders have on the whole reclaimed their lead, occasionally Banksy is more popular and right now it's a dead heat. ;D
www.google.com/trends?q=ladders%2Cbanksy&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0
So like Yentob maybe a ladder of some sort is better than Banksy ;D

BBC 1 Imagine...Now , by Bram on Nov 21, 2007 18:10:40 GMT 1, Its official. Barbie dolls are more popular than banksy - so send me all your prints and I will forward 1 doll for every print received.
Although banksy beats Klaus Barbie hands down so will throw in a third reich armband f.o.c

BBC 1 Imagine...Now , by mike hunt on Nov 21, 2007 20:42:05 GMT 1, People - art is important and everything, but I have some astonishing statistics that need to be acted upon immediately. We can all make a difference. According to this chart, the art of self-gratification has remained steady (thanks in no small part to my efforts), whereas the world of spanking has seen a worrying decline in the uk. www.google.com/trends?q=wanking%2Cspanking&ctab=0&geo=GB&geor=all&date=all&sort=0
