Please help, by ahamil on Nov 23, 2007 14:49:17 GMT 1, Help please. I was sent this reply for a framed print I am looking to buy."it has been dry mounted the only tape that was used on it was 'Acid Free' tape".
Is it ok if it has only been taped is that what they mean by dry mounting? thanks

Please help, by wave on Nov 23, 2007 14:55:20 GMT 1, Dry mounting is when they heat a large sheet of glue/film to fix the print to a mount or card.
Basically it means the print is stuck to something and I don't think it will come off?
Hope that helps

Please help, by neutral on Nov 23, 2007 15:35:58 GMT 1, If a print is float mounted usually framers use acid free tape, it might be the case.

Please help, by buster on Nov 23, 2007 15:50:35 GMT 1, It just gets highly confusing when people dont know what they are selling to people who dont know what they are buying. If a seller doesnt know what has been done to their print, how can you be sure if they know what they are talking about regarding the rest of the print
" oh yes its mint condition ( except the huge crease accross the middle)"

The whole Street Art market is based on that idea! LOL, true enough, but I ment if the seller doesnt know what they are selling how can a buyer make an informed choice ( as they aint been informed). Just hets me worried as its an easy way for some sellers to take advantage of their new found buyers)

Please help, by corblimeylimey on Nov 23, 2007 16:24:09 GMT 1, Some people seem to misunderstand dry mounting as held in place with nothing and think it's the best way, of course the opposite is true. Most prints that are conservation framed (float or mountboard) will have the print held in position with 'tape' just a few hinges and that the adhesive is not damaging and water soluble and of course acid free.
