Reality check???, by RBK on Nov 23, 2007 19:13:50 GMT 1, Dave - PM me your email and I send you some additional photos of the canvas when I get back to Chicago.
And I'm not saying this is the only original worth it at that price range - but for $2400-$2750 you can get an incredible assortment of art (original canvas from up and coming artists, limited edition screen prints from extremely established artists, nice piece of sculpture, etc)
Think it is good people are starting to wake up to the fact they need to be more discerning in their art purchasing.

Reality check???, by corblimeylimey on Nov 23, 2007 19:26:51 GMT 1, I agree with you Dave, totally, too rich for me.
The most I've spent is ยฃ500 for a Banksy print (J&J) folowed by ยฃ300, ยฃ250, and ยฃ200 for other Banksy prints, ยฃ300 for a Blek print apart from that all the rest have been cheap. I've even got some damn good originals for under ยฃ500.
When the price gets to around the ยฃ300 mark IMO it's better to get an original. Check out...

Reality check???, by dave313perry on Nov 23, 2007 19:31:30 GMT 1, I like some of Martins work - most is just nice and easy on the eye, i generally go for stuff abit more provocative and controvertial but its definately good value if its your thing. I like the Vinyl series - bit of a tired idea but looks cool and cheap too! cheers cbl

I think it's becoming an addiction. I have been stressing if I miss a print. Silly!!!

A valid point. There will be a few poor sods sucked into buying some of the crap PoW haven't been able to shift through the site, bought purely on excitement and hype. Worth keeping a sense of perspective as it will be a case of a few jewels amongst the mediocre and some right old tosh.

I'm not as interested in it this year as I was last year, I must admit, it's getting too pricey and I'm satisfied with what I've got, anything more I buy just means somethings gotta give and I'd prefer some reasonably priced (sub ยฃ500) originals, even better when they're sub ยฃ200, you don't even need to buy a frame which would cost about ยฃ150.

Reality check???, by snakes on Nov 23, 2007 19:46:10 GMT 1, Eric The Dog's stuff is cracking imo. Again - just a shame one print is ยฃ150 - 200. I'd have bought all 3 off POW if they were ยฃ75 each.
Rollins, try looking here for some dog stuff..

Reality check???, by f5ers on Nov 23, 2007 20:42:21 GMT 1, I collect a lot of limited edition silkscreen gig posters. They are nearly all sensible money. Artists like emek, Jay Ryan, Justin Hampton, Rob Jones, Brad Klausen, Dan mccarthy, Leia bell, Tara Mcpherson, Kozik etc. etc. . There are some amazing posters out there in very limited runs. Check out gigposters.com and Expressobeans Much more fun too as you can also go watch a gig (get smashed!!) and pick up an awesome limited silkscreen poster.

Reality check???, by jamesreeve5 on Nov 23, 2007 21:20:34 GMT 1, We are a victim of our own good taste!!! within this small fraction of the contemporary art market we circle, we have a group of artists who we have followed from the very beginning and in some cases have been the driving force behind their success - Be it Banksy, micallef, Dface, Denning, Eelus, Logan, static, Dolk, Cauty or Beejoir.....the list goes on What started off as an interesting hobby which coincided with my work has turned into a serious game - with serious decisions and financial risks involved.....why??? For me personally - its time to diversify, big big reality check needed for moi!! I stood in a que stinking of piss for the best part of a day for a print that sold out before i got there, yet i still spent over 2k on second rate lithos of images that i was neither here nor there about when comparing to other works around! everytime i looked at them i got this bitter taste in my mouth and in the end decided to sell them on...naeive to say the least!!! Anyway to get to my point - these artists we have helped to be successful are now charging over 1k - thats 1k for a limited Edition print!!! how much can you do with 1k!! im glad these artists can demand such prices but they ain't demanding it from me anymore!! Time for me to take a step back and look at the next generation. I'm fed up of prices being pushed up by demand and hype of an artist - long live POW and SOS for god sake!! I feel like I'm punching above my weight trying to buy from the artists i have become attached too - and for that reason - in a dragons den style voice 'I'm out!' I'm interested to know if anyone else feels the same - this is now a rich mans game - and I'm no rich man! i shall continue to buy what i can afford, just without making nonsensical sacrifices!!! Peace Dave
Come to California where the strong British pound doesn't have a lot of the good street art in a financial chokehold (YET... *cough* kinsey *cough*).

Reality check???, by andrewd on Nov 23, 2007 21:42:15 GMT 1, 2007 will go down in history as the year of the not so cheap and not so limited print. It has happened before Hogarth did it and so did the PreRaphaelites. 2008? well I think that will have to change unless the market grows( in terms of people appreciating our scene ) I just hope that one and all have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy what they have bought. Try to buy original if you can and of course that is impossible in terms of most big names, try and seek out masterpieces from unknowns. Me I'am looking to see what's out there!
