Laptop VGN-AR51SU
Depending on needs, i would suggest getting the 1500 ish from the insurance and buying a Vaio desktop (from me) and putting the rest towards a Vaio laptop with 15" screen
2 for 1

computer geeks, by shogun on Nov 11, 2007 17:33:58 GMT 1, its not about the make - its about the spec.
Current processor being Intel's Core 2 Duo. These come in various speeds. A good top speed being: T7500 (2.2Hz).
Other factors being hard drive size. I'd expect no less than 160GB. Also RAM being 2048MB. Other bits n bobs being DVD writer etc.
Bottom line being you'd want them to give you a laptop worth the same as what you originally paid for yours.

computer geeks, by lesbianwednesdays on Nov 11, 2007 17:57:56 GMT 1, i've got a vaio laptop, second one as the first one died 6 weeks in to it's life. this has been off for repair due toa faulty space bar but despite dhl not collecting it on the friday when they were supposed to, they came on monday and it was back with me for the thursday.
i would say if you are staying pc then it's a vaio all the way, obviously if she knows her way round a mac then you have two options. i'd say look at comet online as they are dirt cheap or do a search in pricerunner.co.uk to find the best spec for ยฃ1500 and ask for one of those from the insurance company.
you actually got a weekend off then matty? hope you're good mate and the lady's foot isn't too mashed. take it easy buddy.

computer geeks, by nmbr6 on Nov 12, 2007 6:58:32 GMT 1, I'm one of the original Geek Squad Agents in the states and I now work for Best Buy Corporate office our parent company. You may know what our brand is now that we are in London. I was actually there for awhile to help and train their launch.
I've given advice to thousands of people of the years in this business.
If you have never really used a Mac then don't go to a Mac. You won't be happy. Brand Loyalty can mean something. In my personal opinion you will pay more for a sony computer but they are solid. Don't go Dell. I'm typing on one right now but I would never buy another and have never been too pleased with their reputation for service. We hear tons of horror stories from our customers.
That being said any of the major brands will do. Make sure you get the proper specs for what you want to do. If you need any help with that please feel free to pm me.

I always think it's best to get the fastest, biggest, most RAM etc that you can afford, even if you don't need all the power etc now in the future you will.
I bought my Power Mac G5 4 years ago (now called Mac Pro with an Intel chip) it was top computer in the day but even now it holds it's own with a 1.8ghz 64 bit processor and 5Gb RAM, it came with a 160 gig HD (which seemed plenty back then) but now it's been upped to a 500gig plus a 250 gig and I've replaced the DVD drive for faster versions twice.
