Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by stingray on May 17, 2007 23:49:24 GMT 1, My suggestion would be that POW sell the prints at or nearly at market value. It would be nice if they put the extra revenue gained towards some kind of good cause. Ideally, a good cause that was in line with Banksy's politics. This would eradicate the ebay scum. I accept that it makes the prints more expensive and some people would be unable to afford the prints (me being one of them) but it is better that a good cause benefits from Banksy's and POW's generosity than we do. If you really really really love Banksy then you can get a second job and save up and pay the full price. If you still can't afford it then that is tough s**t and you will certainly have bigger problems to worry about. The current system is absurd. are you kidding? ebay sellers would still know there was money to be made (it would probably drive secondary prices up) and those who aren't stupid would know that Banksy is here to stay, so prices are likely to go up (unfortunately). either way, you can't price most of the resellers out the market as they're typically the ones with the money (generated from reselling). the ones who put their banksy's on the wall are the ones without the money, so they'd be priced out.
Ebay sellers wouldn't buy a print from POW for ยฃ1000 if the same print sold on Ebay for ยฃ1000. Why would they do that?
They might speculate that the print will rise in value over a period of time but it is by no means guarenteed that Banksy prices will continue to go up.
There is a chance that recession is around the corner. If we are unlucky enough to face a recession then in the short term Banksy prices will fall.
I don't have a problem with speculators. I have a problem with the people who couldn't give a toss about what they are buying but know that they can put it on Ebay a couple days later and pocket several hundred quid.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by Strange Al on May 17, 2007 23:49:50 GMT 1, phoeton - very nice idea, but not really any different from the current system. Still requires people reporting back to POW. Plus even with a UV pen, I think this would devalue the prints.

I would be well chuffed to have a print signed by the great man to Gordy best wishes....Banksy...
I could then only sell it to Gordon Brown or Gordon Ramsey ... therefore I would have to keep it! ;D

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by stingray on May 17, 2007 23:55:25 GMT 1, maybe write the name of the original purchaser on the back the the print (credit card name) with UV pen. Ban them from future purchases if they are resellers!!! it would dent the reseller market a little but not stop it
All forum users should boycott buying any Banksy prints off Ebay that are for sale within six months of its release.

Gordy - funnily enough, that used to be an option. I know a few people who've got personally dedicated prints. POW would only get Banksy to sign the print once someone bought one and requested it. Those were the days.

more art on the streets from banksy... so we all get to see his work for free!!! at the end of the day, thats what it was all about... hmmm maybe not
as for ebay, maybe you could ruin a auction or you could ignore them...
i would say though, if you do buy off ebay, even if the guy is nice! still report it to P.O.W as this guy has stopped a genuine buyer from purchasing a print! but only for the latest prints, this goes for all artists not just banksy! cant say the same for the sellers of early banksy who are raising capital for genuine reasons

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by arcam on May 18, 2007 1:05:43 GMT 1, Upping the price isn't the solution, all it would achieve is pricing some fans out the market. A lottery system wouldn't work either and I'm convinced more would just fall into the hands of the 'professional' bagger, with several available addresses. The truth of the matter is there is no real solution. When there are people willing to pay such sums, there will always be people willing to sell.

This is a brilliant idea... to be honest I wish POW would do it for signed, and then number each unsigned print and write the owners name on it as well. I know I have a Warhol that is dedicated to someone and I don't care... I just love the piece. The thing is, I bought it for about 75% of the market price for one with just a Warhol signature! Again, no matter to be because I love the print... but that would wreck a baggers chances to flip a print for quick profit if it was noted 386/500 'For Betsy'!!! ;D

i would have thought that the majority of the ones sold on e bay will all be known to POW. When the sellers release the numbers to the purchasers i would have thought that they in turn would check the ownership with POW and there fore POW get the numbers in a round about way.

Putting prices up will not stop baggers, it will just inflate prices further out of our reach on the bay.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by Strange Al on May 18, 2007 9:00:22 GMT 1, I do agree that the signed prints would be less desirable to baggers if they were dedicated to specific individuals on the front. It would certainly take away some of the kudos to have a signed print on your wall which was originally dedicated to some random person with a name other than yours.
They'd obviously have to be signed in ink and the dedicated signature would affect long term value for all of us. Ultimately, I think we all have a price and so something to bear in mind. However, it would IMO make a small dent in the bagger problem.
I've said it before, but the only real way to deal with the bagger issue is to run open edition screen-prints. Though as we all know, there's little real incentive for POW and Banksy to do this. One hell of a lot of work from a practical perspective and, perhaps more importantly, this would go some way to undermining the hype surrounding Mr B. Not something you'd really want if you're part of the inner circle.

Amazing how cheese can segue into football with such ease. ;D Hardest cheese - Mimolette Extra Vielle has a hard outer shell as tough as a coconut shell. Would you adam and believe it?
