Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by Lord Lucas Roham on May 17, 2007 18:43:47 GMT 1, In-light of the POW website Morons fiasco and the ever increasing interest in Banksy by both genuine collectors and eBay touts alike; I am interested to read people viewpoints on what may or may not occur in terms of actually trying to purchase a Trolley Hunters when/if they get released next.
Personally I can see it going one of three ways:
1) Mailing list as per Morons, MASSIVE scramble and I am talking 50000+ hits, website goes down again but people in the UK/Europe spend ALL day/night F5ing til they get one.
2) Randomly unannounced website update, F5 Brigade/Quick off the mark forum lurkers manage to get the first 100 or so, word spreads and the site goes down, again people spend ALL day/night F5ing til they get one
3) Completely new system eg Lottery or Ticketmaster type approach
I genuinely reckon that every time a new print gets released there are another 10,000 or so people out there trying to buy one, possibly more.
Thoughts?

above is my vote but CBL is correct, lots and lots of speculation already exists Nonetheless, I can't see them doing it without an email.

These are more 'when' or 'what' though as opposed to how, The point I am trying to raise with this is the fact that so MANY more people seem to be getting into him daily, given the previous meltdown situation and thats with new servers etc how are they going to cope? I do apologise if double posting though. Its just I am getting extremely excited and like talking about it.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by rhinomilk on May 17, 2007 20:37:29 GMT 1, i think they should sell trollies and claim that it is an unsigned open edition... when in fact it is a run of 500 with some signed ones. see how fast it goes then

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by tomhills1 on May 17, 2007 20:48:13 GMT 1, i can give you some info, though it is rather vague, as are all these speculative threads. i had to email POW last week to check authenticity on a print. whilst doing that i also included my proposal that they email the mailing list with the next print, the editions within it and signed/unsigned etc. then they tell you to reply to an email a few days later if you're interested in buying one and specify which version you want - still only one per household. then after a few days the registration process finishes and the names are drawn until all prints in both editions are allocated. then the buyers contacted and the sale is made. any that are unsold/not allocated go on general release a la the normal scramble way. i got a reply from dora thanking me for my suggestion and saying that all are welcome and considered. she may have been polite or they may be planning something for the next release(s) already. again, i'm speculating.
my point is, don't take anything as read or for granted because they make it up as they go along. trollies has been the next to be released for the last two times and we're still waiting, so who knows.
it's half the fun, surely?

Despite losing out last time I tend to agree. Can't help feeling that tenacity will pay off next time.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by stingray on May 17, 2007 23:00:44 GMT 1, My suggestion would be that POW sell the prints at or nearly at market value.
It would be nice if they put the extra revenue gained towards some kind of good cause. Ideally, a good cause that was in line with Banksy's politics.
This would eradicate the ebay scum.
I accept that it makes the prints more expensive and some people would be unable to afford the prints (me being one of them) but it is better that a good cause benefits from Banksy's and POW's generosity than we do.
If you really really really love Banksy then you can get a second job and save up and pay the full price.
If you still can't afford it then that is tough shit and you will certainly have bigger problems to worry about.
The current system is absurd.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by stuey09 on May 17, 2007 23:06:44 GMT 1, Anything that stops carpetbagging gets my vote, but I disagree with this method stingray. By upping the price to the levels that you are suggesting, you will price a lot of genuine Banksy fans out of buying a print. As for getting a second job to make enough to afford the print, I find that comment ridiculous. At a guess, there are enough people already working their nuts off just to keep there heads above water, with no time left for a second job.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by dmandpenfold on May 17, 2007 23:22:10 GMT 1, agreed stuey, i wouldnt want to be paying full market price for a signed, (unsigned maybe just) and anyway surely that would kill the sales, the reason they shift so quickly now is because they are such good value.
In addition the good causes wouldnt be helped by Banksy's or POW's generosity, the money would be coming out of the buyers pockets not theirs and there could be much less of it at GBP3000 for a signed, GBP550 for unsigned

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by speebe on May 17, 2007 23:23:21 GMT 1, As happend to me before... not with POW.... paid a double the usual rate for my item with a secret mystery item added... worth an equal value!
I was almost as excited to see what else i would recieve, although in the end it wasn't as nice as the item i purchased it was.... 1. A clever way to depleat old stock 2. Nice for those who ended up with something they might not have ever considered before! 3. Might put the baggers off? 4. You still get the print you lusted after!

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by carlito on May 17, 2007 23:23:33 GMT 1, i always thought part of the POW ethos was bringing the art to the people...by upping the prices to levels your suggesting, pushes it back into the realms that make the common person priced out.
"If you still can't afford it then that is tough s**t and you will certainly have bigger problems to worry about."
...real nice

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by gordy on May 17, 2007 23:30:35 GMT 1, Does anybody think that we could have the first ยฃ1000 signed Banksy print release?
Considering that signed prints are going for ยฃ3000 it would still be good value.
They should make the editions bigger in my opinion?

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by stingray on May 17, 2007 23:35:54 GMT 1, We are effectively priced out of the market anyway. I have no idea how many people will be going for the next Banksy print but I think it could well be in the region of 10,000 people?
If this is the case only 1 in 15 of us will get one of the next prints.
Where does that leave me? With no print and with several Ebay scalpers making hundreds of pounds and the prints still endi up in the hands of bankers anyway.
Cut out the scalpers and give the cash to a more worthy cause.
Apologies for the 2nd job comment. My point was that we shouldn't expect to get something for half price. If I really want something than I will have to give up something else.

are you kidding? ebay sellers would still know there was money to be made (it would probably drive secondary prices up) and those who aren't stupid would know that Banksy is here to stay, so prices are likely to go up (unfortunately).
either way, you can't price most of the resellers out the market as they're typically the ones with the money (generated from reselling). the ones who put their banksy's on the wall are the ones without the money, so they'd be priced out.

Next Banksy release on POW - thoughts, by gordy on May 17, 2007 23:44:35 GMT 1, I don't agree totally with the scalpers theory.....
Considering how many Banksy prints are out there now, not many actually turn up on e-bay..
There is a massive amount of genuine people out there who collect BANKSY because they love what he does.... there are people out there who see his art as a great investment eg. Damien Hirst no less. Also, recently I have noticed a new trend of people selling early Banksy just because they need a deposit for a house, car etc....that is how valuable his work has become...
If only Banksy hadn't done that LA show....Angelina f##kin Jolie and Brad Pitt have alot to answer for other than crap films.. ;D
