Hanging your Artwork, by danvnuk on Oct 28, 2007 11:52:13 GMT 1, I picked my GIWTBB up from the framers this weekend - and got it up on the wall (right pain in the arse that was - its quite heavy and akward)
anyway - now it's up - Im not entirely sure I like where it's hanging. (see Photos and offer opinions please)
My question - how do forum members choose where to hang their art? is there some guidance, some rules of 'how to hang' (oooer) - its quite akward, especially as the place is newly decorated by my own fair hand - so each hole in the wall I make is like a flaming hot skewer plunged into my heart.....or something like that.

Hanging your Artwork, by manty on Oct 28, 2007 12:01:17 GMT 1, I reckon an inch lower on the GIWTBB (joke)
All looks fine to me, just put em where you want them, and dont worry about holes, worry more about cables and pipes in the wall:-)

Hanging your Artwork, by discoduster on Oct 28, 2007 12:22:10 GMT 1, Personally I would have put some colour in there and break up all that black and white, possibly swapping the AFD for something else.
Each to their own of course and I think it looks very nice as it is.

LOL
Well, if you live in a tent you've got bigger problems than the mechanics of hanging your art.
I think what bothers me is now I have two Micallefs - the Mantis AFD in between is so different stylewise, it just doesn't look right. I think I need another Micallef Charcoal style print to hang where that is. <pulls trouser pocket lining out and mimes being skint and sad>

Thanks, I might try that - the "colour" is currently lurking round the corner.

Hanging your Artwork, by buffin on Oct 28, 2007 12:39:29 GMT 1, I think it looks great. If the AFD doesn't go could you swop it round with GIWTBB?. Personally I don't mind the lack of colour.

Hanging your Artwork, by corblimeylimey on Oct 28, 2007 14:27:51 GMT 1, I think your GIWTBB is too close to the wall (on it's right hand side) I think framed prints need a little room around them, so as buffin has suggested swapping over GIWITBB with AWD could work a treat. As for the three being black & white IMO that's fine.

Hmmmm - CBL this is what I pondered on as well,....but then if you look at the GIWTBB as you come up the stairs - it sits perfectly square in the small landing (see first Photo) - it's all compromise, thing is my GF is no help, she can't hold the picture up so I can see it 'in place' and I have to rely on her judgement...
"What do you think of it here?" "yeah,...that looks ok....come on, hurry up, I wan't to go shopping"
sheesh.
I hung the GIWTBB so it's exactly the same height as the JD opposite.....hmmmm, I think I may leave it a couple of weeks - live with it as it were - and then decide.
The only thing is - the more art you buy, the more the 'empty' spots look glaringly obvious.....which creates the vicious circle of needing to buy more art.
bollocks.
BTW - thanks CuriousGeorge on the compliments on my decorating skills ;D - after spending every weekend for 2 years doing the whole place, I became somewhat an expert. LOL
So I'm gathering from this thread everyone hangs their artwork like I do - by what feels right, rather than following some hanging rulebook (errr which I'm not aware of) lol

Hanging your Artwork, by curiousgeorge on Oct 28, 2007 15:13:12 GMT 1, Only rules for me would be not near any rads, and out of direct sunlight, oh and out of reach of sticky little fingers from sticky little people!!
I would try moving it to the left by 4-6" and see if it is easier on the eye, failing that put it where JD is, and ermmm i could find a space for the JD;)
