Ian Curtis Joy Division, by JD on Oct 24, 2007 20:20:06 GMT 1, Ive left the flyer at work but from memory they are by a french photographer taken at the bands only French gig in 79. Theres loads of photos in the shop in editions of 30 I think. All at 750 euros.I think the display ends today but if you call the shop they should be able to tell you how to purchase from the photographer. I'm going to the film on monday , is it really good then?

Ian Curtis Joy Division, by andrewd on Oct 24, 2007 20:50:13 GMT 1, Ian and the rest of the band signed my copy of An Ideal for Living. No it's not for sale!! Back in the day and yes I am that old I was a student in Hulme a stones throws from The Factory Club and then the Hacienda. I am keen to see Closer which has had good reviews by all associated with the surviving members of the band. It is based on Ian's wife book Touching From a Distance, Deborah Curtis. Worth a read.

Ian Curtis Joy Division, by artyfarty on Oct 25, 2007 12:32:32 GMT 1, Yes, it's a lovely film apart from the first 30 mins which I thought were a little hamfisted. Superb performance from Samantha Morton and very good by Sam Riley although I thought he was a little too pretty. The last half an hour was very moving. I agree that Deborah's book is well worth a read as well but give Mick Middles & Lindsay Reade's a wide birth - too many axes in there to grind I felt. I've got a signed copy of Transmission from Erics in Liverpool 1979 which has pride of place on my wall. Unknown Pleasures and Closer are a fine pair of albums - thoroughly, thoroughly recommended to one and all. It's a shame that all of the photography associated with them is so expensive. I was after some of Kevin Cummins' photos but I seem to remember that they were very pricey. I'd appreciate any information from anybody about sources for reasonably priced photos.

I live in Hulme now, close to where the Russell club was; its all changed a bit since when I was a student!
