Uncertainty breeds opportunity... , by Yessir on Oct 19, 2007 2:52:56 GMT 1, A lot of people are worried, about this scene going into free fall and collapsing, BUT the only way that can happen is if the artists themselves make that happen e.g an artist I won't mention his name, has jacked in the art he does due to declining sales and interest in his work and now does a "9-5 job" in advertising, so he is now a lost to this scene.
All this uncertainty means that their are opportunities to get pieces that were going for astronomical figures recently e.g Mantis AFD, Beejoir SBFO OR Banksy Flag, the list goes on and on and ON.
A few people have derided the likes of Eelus, Cauty and Blek Le Rat for the decline in the value of their art work but people who are into these artists are having a feeding frenzy, based off of the ignorance of people who only base an artist's worth and standing on Ebay prices achieved ( you know who you are and what you are ).
My point is as long as there are true fans who support artists in this scene, even if prices plunge to a £1 per print, the scene will always survive IMO. This is the scene that started where graffiti artists sold their first pieces for a fiver a time.
Its a bit like having success in your life and one day losing nearly everything you have worked hard for, If your wife/girlfriend TRULY loves you, she WILL support and stick it out with you (em...well most wifes/girlfriends will )
I recently nailed a fantastic deal for a print from Antony Micallef's first known print run ( before the Eyestorm prints) I honestly believe I would have had to shell out a lot more if I had brought this 6 months ago.
* I found these images of the print in the Micallef forum, I will put mine up once I have framed it.
My question is what recent print deal have you pulled off or hoping to pull off in this climate of unnecessary fear and panic that is sweeping through the art world?

Uncertainty breeds opportunity... , by ABC on Oct 19, 2007 6:37:53 GMT 1, For me there is no "climate of unnecessary fear and panic" that is just for the Flippers, Baggers and Galleries. Yes, agreed we all like the fact our collections are worth a few bob but the fun has disappeared fast with this shark frenzy at every release. Id like to think I'm still buying for the like of the work rather than values. I think the whole buy to sell market has already crashed. Unless you bag a Banksy then there are no guarantees about making money so why bother.

NOW is the time to stock up on your back catalogue of missed prints. I'm loving it getting loads of Cauty stuff for cheap and hope it drops further then I can get more!
I only buy what I like and what I intend to hang on the walls. Never been a fan of portfolio collectors but am having to look into that myself now due to having so many prints on the cheap.
I think the market has peaked and now people who jumped on the bandwagon/gravytrain are starting to get burnt.

Uncertainty breeds opportunity... , by corblimeylimey on Oct 19, 2007 18:26:17 GMT 1, The only trouble with these lower prices is that I now regret paying what I did for my Blek - David With AK direct from BRP when one (AP as well!) has sold on ebay for £121.

Uncertainty breeds opportunity... , by Simococo on Oct 19, 2007 18:58:26 GMT 1, £121!!!! is more than a steal the guys a genius. I'm going on the bay now to get me some more Blek. Man Who Walks through Walls in in my all time top 10. I met him at the Leonard Street gallery a few months ago with his wife and son and he is absolutely top bloke. He is also in the rare bracket of being a middle aged man who can actaully pull off the leather jacket and rollneck look without shame.
