Mr elusive, by CR on Oct 14, 2007 19:45:15 GMT 1, See where you're coming from but here's a hyperthetical .... if in a magical universe the next signed banksy would cost you £5000 to buy on the secondary market but you would only make £300 if you sold it. Would £650 sound like good value?
I am not sure I understand your question - yes £650 sounds like good value.
if in this world, a signed banksy cost £650, but other prints sold on the secondary market for, say, £700 - then I would still say it was relativly good value. I am not saying £650 is affordable or cheap but it does represent good value for a banksy in todays climate!

Mr elusive, by finsburyparkranger on Oct 14, 2007 19:52:15 GMT 1, Ok let me put it another way, would you pay pow £650 for an open edition signed banksy if you knew that if you did not buy this week POW would be selling it for £5000 next week?
actually sod it no, how much would you pay for an open edition signed banksy, thats a much more interesting question.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to get at FPR?
Would I pay POW £650 for an open edition, NO
would I pay £650 for an open edition, if I knew it would be worth £5000 in a week - NO
would I pay £650 for a ltd edition - YES if I had saved up enough money to comfortably afford it

Mr elusive, by pezlow on Oct 14, 2007 20:13:18 GMT 1, FPR - There is a very good questions in there. Would people pay £650 for a signed open edition from Banksy? I will have to think about this myself before answering....
If it were trolleys yes. Depends on whether I like the image or not and how rich I was feeling...

Mr elusive, by corblimeylimey on Oct 14, 2007 20:18:37 GMT 1, I don't see Banksy being very happy about signing an open edition, we could be talking of 5,000 or even 20,000, maybe 100,000!
I'd be happy to pay around £100 for an open edition unsigned screen print from Banksy (of the same size and quality that has already been produced)

I would be willing to pay between £50 and £100 for an open edition screen print, if they were of the same quality as the ltd edition ones coming out at present, I wouldn't however pay that for a litho like the soup cans.
for example, I paid £50 or something for my WSM when it came out, so to make an unlimited print at this price would still make POW a profit!
I'd love to see the angel with the bullet proof vest, come out as an unlimited long screen print!!

Mr elusive, by themightyreds on Oct 14, 2007 22:18:51 GMT 1, Maybe they could do an open edition for a set period of time, say one month, at a set price and all orders taken for it within that time period would be produced. Then from those made 10% of the run would be signed and distributed randomly. Maybe...

Mr elusive, by hendrix on Oct 15, 2007 7:52:23 GMT 1, The point that I'm trying to make is in one to two weeks time this forum will be full of negativity regarding price, flippers and those who were not lucky enough to get hold of the trolleys print and I can fully understand that. I just feel there should be something in place where the real fans like yourselves get a chance to have something which is obviously very important to you and not to be pushed aside like a pile of s**t. My other bug bare is other artists take the time to interact with their fans on this forum, fair enough if he wants to remain elusive, but it would be nice for him to say thanks to all the people who have supported him. That to me is giving something back and it doesn’t cost a penny. In my humble opinion the trolleys print is not that good anyway, if you compare it with Some of G.D. work or even the images Jefaerosol has kindly posted over the past week. As stated in my first post its you the people on here that deserve a better deal. Good luck to you all in getting what you want what ever the cost. Thanks for joining in the fun.

Cauty already does that (well not the signed bit) and it works excellent.
He knocks 'em out at just £20 each!! then deletes 'em when all orders are in. Then everyone (genuine) has a limited print!!

that is quite affordable, but that's in part because Cauty's pieces are basically inkjet prints.

Mr elusive, by pezlow on Oct 15, 2007 8:38:55 GMT 1, There will be a lot of negativity to come concerning trolleys, that is inevitable. I really can't see that that is Banksy's fault at all. After all he could be knocking out his prints for three times what POW currently sell them for and they would still be gone in the blink of an eye.
And I really don't think that you can say that someone deserves a print more than anyone else (other than flippers). As long as the person buying it frames it and sticks it on the wall and enjoys it then they deserve it just as much as me or anyone else on this forum.
