2007 - a review, by manchestermike on Oct 15, 2007 15:11:03 GMT 1, My predictions weren't half bad
Personally I think Faile and Insect (off the back of the Dead Rebels series - a totally brilliant and fantastically well executed idea). Invader could also be one to watch (main problem is the translation of his work to 2D)
More dead rebels for insect in 2007? I'd imagine so. It also wouldn't surprise me if they do a re-run (maybe with different backgrounds etc) of the current 3...
Didn't buy either though ;D

Big step up this year i think is Eine.

2007 - a review, by jonpud on Oct 15, 2007 15:15:17 GMT 1, At this point in time I am REALLY liking Jef Aerosol's work, love the quality of the work in Paris, LOVE even more the piece he did for Harveyn. I contacted him and the guy is 100% genuine nice bloke, he liked my idea's for a commission but the subject matter didn't fit in with his beleif's so we are discussing a new direction. Definitely someone who is 'keeping it real' and who will no doubt be seen as a great talent! Not telling anyone else to like his work just because I do though!! ;D

2007 - a review, by Deleted on Oct 15, 2007 15:23:00 GMT 1, Harveyn stole exactly what I was going to say.
I think Matt Smalls originals have been quality, and I'm very excited to see how he goes from here. Blu's street work is incredible and has only just clicked with me this year. Although, I don't think Blu will ever really fit well into the 'print' scene.
Guy Denning, my favorite artist, has been thrown in with this street art "scene". It's hard to explain how when there are plenty of other fine artists out there. When he joined Rep Propeller, people associated him with the likes of Ian Franics and Micallef and he therefore has a place here. Also, the originals were relatively cheap. I think for somebody from this forum to go out and spend thousands on an artist unknown to this scene, would be far too risky. I think Denning is seen as a safe artist because of his relationship with this forum. If that makes sense.
Oh, and how can we forget the infamous Artfortruth thread. ;D I am actually still a huge fan of Derek Shumate's work and think it's a shame that it was clouded with so much negativity. He has produced some wicked street art also!

Reminds me a bit of the Trainspotting film, only there it was the soundtrack that helped balance it.

2007 - a review, by dmandpenfold on Oct 15, 2007 16:09:16 GMT 1, great post pez... will have a think and get back to the thread... in the mean time... what happened between 29 March 2007 and 8 July 2007, just a lot of hopeless F5ing?
mcnuts, didn't Redpropeller release a few Ian Francis around then, not to mention the follow up from BLKMRKT later in August.
His images are generally top notch and the low editions snapped up pretty quickly, i still can't understand why people are ignoring his editions of 250 which have been available for some time and can still be bought at a very reasonable price....im slowly picking them up as and when i can afford them

I think the redpropeller prints had been out for quite a while. Truth is not much happened between April and July this year, unless I have forgotten it. There were a few nice releases of course and a couple of shows but nothing much special IMHO.

2007 - a review, by stuey09 on Oct 15, 2007 16:52:34 GMT 1, I have a similar view of 'the scene' as manchestermike has, although my analogy would be with the Punk scene. For Malcolm Mclaren read Steve Lazarides. Banksy is the Sex Pistols and therefore Blek would be Richard Hell (The original punk) Then the Clash (Faile), Damned (D*Face), Buzzc**ks (Eine) came along and were later joined by Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie, The Jam and a whole diverse cross section of dissalusioned youth, read other up and coming 'new wave artists'. All the punk bands had picture sleeves for their first records to help sell them as they were small editions, read limited edition art prints. The similarities are endless but I have to get back to work....
I like this anology romanywg. But who are the UK Subs and Cockney Rejects then ;D

Cockney Rejects would be The Kunsterrorists. Don't know about UK Subs. Spizzoil or The Rezillos would be James Cauty.
