Boooo-hoooo you stole my idea, by mcnuts on Oct 16, 2007 10:40:33 GMT 1, Yeah I hope it's all just a wind-up but it does come across like a knee-jerk reaction to me. What I'd like to know though is how many notes the Chapmans did and how varied the art was. I mean I've only seen this one, maybe it's the only skull they did, there's only so many ways you can deface the queens head a skull's going to be inevitable isn't it ?
i get the sneaking feeling it was all a bit of a media stunt and they only did it for Wednessday when the filth masses werent alowed in. It was enough to get good media coverage and entice some have a go punters (such as moi) to come to the Fair. At the same time, the Guardian article said they were to spend most of their time doing that. Nope

Boooo-hoooo you stole my idea, by gozgoz on Oct 16, 2007 10:57:45 GMT 1, Does anyone have the RENEGADES album by Rage Against the Machine?
The inlay was about a guy who drew on banknotes... and i thought that was possibly one of the most powerful inlays ive seen...

Boooo-hoooo you stole my idea, by Gentle Mental on Oct 16, 2007 13:32:36 GMT 1, Dface's version is far, far, better - though made earlier, it's stronger, with better perspective, detail and personality and humour.
you'd think the bros would've "improve" on it....

who knows how long dface took... in my opinion given enough time the chap's could blow dface outta the water...... remember the chaps were just messing about... doodling... i doubt they took hours to do each drawing as the goal was to keep punters in the q moving and not make a masterpiece.

Boooo-hoooo you stole my idea, by jfury on Oct 16, 2007 13:39:29 GMT 1, His website says the following - bit different from the Guardian article.....
Stolen*Face - Frieze who goes there. 15.10.2007
So when I saw the Chapman brothers (those Brit artists who have been sleeping on their hands since the 90's) dead Queen that they were 'attempting' to draw at Frieze Art Fair, I thought WTF I recognise that idea... and from the stream of emails I had from people noticing the same 'similarity' it became apparent I wasn't alone in my thinking.
I never claimed ownership for drawing on bank notes, but drawng on bank notes and drawing the Queen dead is two seperate things. It doesn't help that 2 years ago I pasted a 5ft dead Queen poster on the end of Fournier Street, (where she still remains today) where I later found out they live, apparently though they never saw this, which only confirms my theory that they must be walking around with their eyes closed.
The Independent Newspaper cover the story today.
I'll let you decide...

Boooo-hoooo you stole my idea, by pezlow on Oct 16, 2007 14:27:14 GMT 1, It could also be argued that the chapmans were the first (as between them and dface) to come up with the idea of defaceing things. After all they defaced those Goya etchings way back in 2003. But of course Dface may not have realised this since he thinks they were "sitting on their hands" then. See:
