Bargains appearing on eBay..., by jp on Apr 29, 2007 9:56:54 GMT 1, hehehe, no thomas you're right matey, My mate loves my Kate and as it was his birthday I bought him a tribute from ebay... I couldnt stretch to the original for him!! Its actually a really good copy. I'll get him to post pics on here! As for my Kate, she is a different colour and is lying inbetween sheets of acid free tissue paper! I havent decided what type or style of frame. My framer says float mounted but Im way too cautions to have anyone sticking double sided tape to her! Equally im scared that if she mounted (oo err) will the paper underneath the mount discolour at all? Even the tiniest amount?
Hi Les,
I don't think you need to worry about either method of mounting if you go with a reputable framer with a history of archival framing (think John Jones). I would certainly not skimp on the framing with your Kate print. With float mounting, make sure the framer explains exactly what material they will use (e.g wheat paste and japanese tissue), likewise for traditional mounting. I have seen prints taken out of frames where the mounting material has caused a yellow discoloration on the edges of the print (often called "burning") due to the mounting material not being acid free, or some other chemical coming into contact with print.
I had similar angst about getting a very expensive print framed recently and asked many galleries in my area where they had their framing done. Almost all of them gave me the same framer's name, so I sought them out and they were fantastic to work with. Very very expensive (paid almost $1100.00) but worth every penny. Good luck.
