Bargains appearing on eBay..., by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 8:50:14 GMT 1, It seems a few of the flippers are are weakening and ebay is showing up a few bargains.
If you have a good study of the bay, some good old & new pieces are going for record low levels.
In the past week I have spent ยฃ1200 and bought the following:
Banksy - Morons - Unsigned Matt Small - Saul - Signed Matt Small - Terry - Signed Invader - Albino Invader - Signed Blek le Rat - Last Tango - Signed James Cauty - Zeplin - Signed
That equates to ยฃ200 per piece, which to be fair I'd pay for any of the prints.
Sounds good to me

Bargains appearing on eBay..., by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 9:06:22 GMT 1, hehehe me too mate
I bidded on it with 3 hours to go and then went to work... came back Friday evening and whabham! I know own a Morons!
Although I will hold that thought till it arrives.
Actually RK... as a fellow US Collector, please advise me. The print hasnt been shipped yet and I have asked him to send it by a decent courier insured and signed for. However, I was going to ask him to mark the customs label as "$15 poster".
Is this a good way to go?

Bargains appearing on eBay..., by Ripper1331 on Apr 28, 2007 10:39:25 GMT 1, You would want that declared at full value - if it's lost and the declared value is $15 then that is the value they would cover. It might cost a bit more to get through customs but if lost or damaged you are in a much better position to claim.

I'm know that I'm clearly not RK, but I'd just like to say that insurance for US$500 really doesn't cost that much. For something cheap and reliable, I would suggest that you ask the US seller to ship via USPS express mail - it's trackable, and additional insurance for US$500 (roughly ยฃ250, the 'cost' price from POW) can be purchased for only US$4.50. So in total, the postage would cost only around US$33... trackable, insured, and signature required. You could insure it for more, but I don't think it's gonna cost significantly more than that.
So... armed with this first-hand information, you can make sure that the seller doesn't rip you off on postage

Bargains appearing on eBay..., by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 17:06:47 GMT 1, CBL... you're spot on mate. Five of the prints have arrived already and I can now look at them all and decide on what I want to keep and what I want to move on.
Saul has been framed. Float mounted in a DIY style by me!! I'm really happy with the outcome actually. Not the best photo as it was done on my phone.
The Last Tango is a keeper for sure!! Look stunning and crisp.
Not 100% sure I'll keep "Terry" or the Cauty though. If anyone is after either of these let me know and I'll sort you out a bargain
All I want now is a Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R.... best I get saving!

go on nick, get her out! thomas, it's not a tribute but the real deal. personally i think it's selfish keeping her locked up, in the true kate moss spirit i think you should pass her round for everyone to have a go on. or look at perhaps. in other words, get some pics up nick.

Bargains appearing on eBay..., by lesroy on Apr 28, 2007 19:11:04 GMT 1, hehehe, no thomas you're right matey, My mate loves my Kate and as it was his birthday I bought him a tribute from ebay... I couldnt stretch to the original for him!! Its actually a really good copy. I'll get him to post pics on here!
As for my Kate, she is a different colour and is lying inbetween sheets of acid free tissue paper!
I havent decided what type or style of frame. My framer says float mounted but Im way too cautions to have anyone sticking double sided tape to her! Equally im scared that if she mounted (oo err) will the paper underneath the mount discolour at all? Even the tiniest amount?

You've got to get her framed, or there's not much point in having it.
You'll be safe as long as it's conservation grade, I'd go for a mounted frame job though as it only uses the T hinges on the top edge. It will definately be a good idea to go to a framer that's a member of The Fine Art Trade Guild ( www.fineart.co.uk/ ) and if I were you spare no expense (anti UV and anti reflection glass etc)
More info on conservation standard here (from the Fine Art Trade Guild site)
www.fineart.co.uk/FramingStdConservationLevel.asp
the next level up is museum standard, but I'm sure the conservation level is fine.

Banksy prices are still climbing for signed stuff... my Granny is at ยฃ3250 and has 4 days left!

I agree with Bacardi's sentiments that USPS with insurance is probably a good idea. Depending on the print/value I sometimes ask for it to be marked 'poster' or 'personal documents' as to not be nabbed by customs.
For very expensive prints (1K+) I've been using Fedex. Stay away from DHL and while it may be overkill to a certain extent - I highly recommend sending stuff double-tubed. Who know how it is handled once you drop it off at the post.
Basically you have to figure is it worth the risk of it being damaged and worry about insurance. I think doubled-tubed via the regular post office is probably what makes the most sense from a cost standpoint - but use Fedex or UPS if you want to be absolutely sure.
