Private Listings, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2007 7:38:12 GMT 1, Help required folks.
I am currently watching an item on Ebay that I am considering bidding on. The seller is using private listings which makes me nervous.
Why use Private Listings?
I was watching a Micallef (Bomber Girl) which used Private Listings and it sold for just under £6k (low in my opinion). When I went back to look at the bidding sequence the highest bidder was no longer listed as an ebay member and neither was the seller. Okay I understand the highest bidder being gone (shill bidding) but if the sellers account is now closed also does this mean this was a stolen account?

Private Listings, by Richard on Oct 12, 2007 7:42:49 GMT 1, Don't be worried. He has just done it so once the item is sold the item itself will not appear in his feedback.
Basically, he doesn't want people seeing what he sold or how much it went for...understandable if he deals in art.
As long as he has good feedback and a relatively high number of transactions all should be good in the hood.

Private Listings, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2007 7:45:19 GMT 1, Hi Richard
Thanks - But why close your account both seller and buyer (he did not just delete the auction).
Any thoughts on legitimate reasons to us Private Listings?

Private Listings, by motor on Oct 12, 2007 9:08:20 GMT 1, WTF? Don't get it either. Looks fishy to me...No pics of the real piece, closed account, etc..

Private Listings, by themightyreds on Oct 12, 2007 9:17:20 GMT 1, Looks a bit sus to me with the buyer and seller no longer with ebay...
One good reason for private listings though is to prevent sellers of similar items from contacting the bidders whose identity is being kept private and offering them the same product at slightly under what they are bidding.

Makes sense.

If it is over £100 the bidding id's are private anyway though...
