What should POW do from this point on?, by johnas on Sept 26, 2007 10:08:32 GMT 1, well, if POW is really looking into this and planning to take legal action, then they might not be able to make any sort of statement at this time other than what was said in the article.
very true.... i guess the point i was trying to make is some sort of communication would be a good starting point

What should POW do from this point on?, by carlito on Sept 26, 2007 10:15:34 GMT 1, slightly off thread, i know, apologies in advance, but if you have bought a banksy on ebay, presumably the best thing to do now is contact pow by email and ask them to re-confirm that who you believe to be the orriginla owner, is indeed the orriginal owner?
yes email their enquiries address, I dropped them a mail last night and got a reply within half an hour! Tell them the print number and who you believe to be the original owner they'll be able to confirm if this is correct.

I'm guessing they think they already have this covered with the notice on the home page and the new FAQs

What should POW do from this point on?, by zippyblip on Sept 26, 2007 10:17:09 GMT 1, What do people in this forum think POW should do to regain our trust, if anything? I thought this would be a good discussion. And it will be a good way to send a message to POW.
Great discussion!
So based on the news yesterday and that I had a few hours before bought a new Banksy print on eBay (for the first time EVER so typically good timing) I emailed PoW to confirm provenance (as well as for another print I have)- they got back to me last night and confirmed all was well.
Very happy with the response and although this is clearly not a good situation, I still fundamentally agree with what they are trying to do in making art accessible, not hiking costs and at least trying to allow people like us to buy works by Banksys etc etc- so I'll still be voting for them..... ;D

What should POW do from this point on?, by savilerogue on Sept 26, 2007 14:40:03 GMT 1, They should learn how to run a business properly. Especially when there is so much money involved.
They can no longer worm their way out of cock-ups by pretending that they're some humble little outfit who are only in it for a love or art.

I would say higher editions. Looks like the Micallef's are going to work well. It's going to take the stupidity out if these prices
I would be a little gutted if all my art was all of a sudden worthless, but some of the recent prices are just unsustainable.

What should POW do from this point on?, by Existencil on Sept 26, 2007 15:03:28 GMT 1, Is it going to take the stupity out of the prices. The Micallef editions of 100 have been selling for anything between £600 & £1000 since they were released. I've seen the LAZ editions of 400 going almost for cost in some cases.
They should do a big release & a small exclusive release. Imagine if the next Banksy intallment had an edition of 500, edition of 150 & an edition of 10. Nice bit of variation there. Something POW hasn't been doing of late.

Agree on all those points. But if they made lower editions, this would force up the price, making it less attractive to the average punter and probably reduce their profit margin. Having said that, I think they could be a bit smarter on their edition size/pricing.
I'm surprised they aren't more selective of edition size based on previous history of the sales per artist. It's obvious that an edition size of 500 - 1000 will fly out the door for Bankys/Micallef but all of the Blu prints are still available. What are the chances they would have been snapped up by now with a smaller edition size but slightly higher price.

What should POW do from this point on?, by Existencil on Sept 26, 2007 15:16:50 GMT 1, The Blu prints should have been editions of 75 at £200 each.
If that were the case, WWT would have sold out in week 1 & Blu's star would be rising fast. As it is, his stuff is sitting on the shelf gathering dust & the momentum is bloated.

What should POW do from this point on?, by numusic on Sept 26, 2007 15:29:01 GMT 1, What would be the point of making them more exclusive and more expensive ? people seem to find it difficult to grasp that the POW concept is to produce affordable art, it's their company profile... what would be the point of releasing prints that they thought EVERYONE and their dog would like ? to sell out immediately ? a store without stock ? they sat on Banksy prints for years before people came around to him.. who's to say the same won't happen to the others... I mean really, they do what they want and they release what they want when they like... who gives a fuck what we all think.. consumer power ? fuck that. It's not a supermarket. Way too much gripes on here about "I'm a consumer, I demand to be treated like a fucking McCustomer or I'm taking my money elsewhere"... what the fuck has happened to England, it's sounding more and more like the 51st State .. little consumer robots moaning that they don't get good customer service from a company that guarantees if you buy their product it's worth 3 times as much the next day.
Sad...

well they do (or at least did) sell banksy prints at a fraction of their true market value. and they provide an essential authentication service. apart from this i think people may be less forgiving of them...

Why would you want them to be more exclusive and further out of your reach. Unless you planned to sell them on of course.
