Second Chance offer, by nickc on Oct 2, 2007 12:33:15 GMT 1, Its basically one of a few reasons with the most common being;
The first buyer dropped out They have more than one item If they make a second chance offer then you get the chance to buy the item at the maximum bid you entered. So if the original buyer won the auction at £100 beating your offer of £95 but then dropped out, you can do a BIN for £95.
The advantage to you is that you get the chance to buy it at the maximum amount you can afford and the advantage to the seller is that they get to sell it - albeit at a slightly lower price than they hoped to get.
I hope this explains it.

Second Chance offer, by hendrix on Oct 2, 2007 12:40:18 GMT 1, On the item I have sold it says "1 item I sold is eligible for a Second Chance Offer". If its sold and I have received the payment why would I offer it to someone else.

This shows who you can choose to offer it to and what price their max bid was. The obvious choice is to go for the one at the next highest fee but you may choose to go with someone with more feedbacks (those numbers in the brackets). What were you selling?

in that situation you would want to relist rather than offering a second chance anyway. if you don't want to sell for less than you paid then you need to put a reserve on the auction.

Second Chance offer, by ray on Oct 2, 2007 14:02:27 GMT 1, Call me crazy, but I don't trust second chance offers or auctions that are "private". When you see both from the same seller run. I've also been seeing a lot of relistings with "someone messed with my auction so it's "back for sale".
I can understand this happening on occasion but if it happens with consistency the seller had a shill win it and needs to relist.
Just my 2 cents...

Second Chance offer, by pezlow on Oct 2, 2007 16:07:34 GMT 1, In fairness often second chance offers are made when the seller has more than one of the items to sell.
For the higher priced items believe me you get a hell of a lot of people bidding, winning and then mucking around and not paying. I've sold about 30 things this year (some prints and then other bits and pieces) and have had to relist at least 4 due to non-payers.

I'd have a look around to see if something similar's being sold at the same time (if someones mucking with your auction).. I had it happen to me a week or so ago by a former board member Ruperts-dad (aka ***betty-boo*** on ebay). I've heard from some other sellers that the same thing's happened to them. And yes, I have proof.
