Visit SYDNEY ๐ญ๐ฒ Australia Street Art, Galleries, Events, by naughtyshorty on Oct 10, 2011 5:52:27 GMT 1, For all your Aussie forum members...
Experience the world's freshest art movement when over 100 of the best Street Artists from Australia and overseas transform Cockatoo Island in the Outpost Project - an explosion of urban art.
The island's gritty industrial spaces will become platforms for projects that showcase the energy and diversity of contemporary Street Art. Large-scale installations, live art creations including aerosol art, stencilling, paste-ups, sticker art, cup rocking, sculpture, murals and bill boards will illuminate the island's vast abandoned factories and forgotten alleyways, while exhibitions, and forums take visitors on a multi-layered journey into global Street Art culture.
The Outpost Project has been curated by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust Programming team and amBUSH Gallery to present the work of a host of renowned international and local artists such us Roa (Germany) Ethos (Brazil) Kid Zoom (USA/Australia), Anthony Lister (USA/Australia) and the Everfresh Collective (Australia), a previously unseen major private collection of Street Art, George Shaw's Oi! You Collection boasting works by Os Gemeos, Swoon, Faile and the world's best known and most influential street artist Banksy.
The Outpost Project will also exhibit works from the 2011 Australian Stencil Art Prize, a major T-shirt streetwear exhibition, the May Lane Street Art Project presented by Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, plus local collectives collaborating with international artists.
Against this backdrop, a vibrant live and changing weekend events program offers a mix of grand experiences and unexpected happenings that capture the essence of Street Art and the movement's influence on other urban cultures. Street sports take centre stage with the creation of a vast waterfront skateable plaza leading to the Skateboarding Australia's Pro/Am Tour Grand Final.
Alongside the action, an array of pop-up bars, retail and gallery spaces, artist battles, demos, DJ's, tours and art-making projects cover the island with activity for all ages. The Outpost Project will also present an innovative education program, engaging students with the artists, voices, styles and issues of Street Art. Escape from the mainland and immerse yourself in street art on Cockatoo Island

A look at 17 Sydney stencil artists
Free iBook available for download through iTunes
Step into the lives of 17 Sydney stencil artists and discover their inspirations, creative techniques, their challenges, who influences them and how they began their stencil making career.
Written by the Director of the Stencil Art Prize, Jacinta Fintan, this free iBook features interviews with Mini Graff, Tiera Boo, E.L.K, Camo, Syke, Jackson Farley, TEEM, Shanta, Jenna Bloom, Maria Harding, Ben Rak, Nick Hore, Vector Punk, Abbey Piaud, Soto Smith, Mark Callaghan and Karen Torrisi.
โFor me the process goes like this: This is awesome..... This is tricky..... This is s**t...... I am s**t...... This might be ok..... This is awesome.โ Luke Cornish aka E.L.K
โI really love using an obscene amount of colour and making it work. It is really easy to balance a mainly monochromatic stencil piece but when you start to get thirty plus layers of different colour and some mixed on the same layer you'd better be pretty familiar with colour theory. It is a huge challenge but when it works itโs the best thing, it really makes the work pop.โ Tiera Boo
