During a recent article about buying art on Ebay allegations were made by the Arts Newspaper concerning the integrity of a handful of Banksy prints produced by POW. We would like to assure you that this is a matter of utmost seriousness to us and a full investigation is currently underway.
The manufacture and sale of prints on POW is an extremely accountable process. All screenprints are produced in-house under secure conditions and strictly to the edition number stated. The personal details of every purchaser are recorded on a database which is used to discourage 'flipping' and to provide provenance to interested parties on future generations of sale. We believe our security systems to be fully comprehensive and reliable. Should you have any concern about the number or provenance of a print do not hesitate to contact the office at the below address.
Please note that these allegations affect only Banksy prints and at the present time nobody has come forward to POW to inform us of any concerns.

There was also a thread a while back where they had identified a fake Banksy. I think it was on the wrong type of paper. Thats been kept pretty quiet.

POW homepage update (relax no new prints), by speebe on Sept 22, 2007 22:39:17 GMT 1, I know that POW have confirmed provenance for some members of this forum, but I do find that It's encouraging that they have now openly suggested that people with genuine concerns e-mail them to confirm provenance.
Although I too wonder how they can possibly track and be accountable for so many of those early prints that were sold through other stores, galleries both in the UK and overseas by the likes of Forbidden Planet, Magma, Artomatic etc
I will be taking advantage of their offer as I need to check the provenance of a print I picked up in Japan... The store checks out but I would love confirmation.

I don't think it can be that article as I think, from memory, that was to do with faked originals, not prints.
Maybe I am wrong but I don't interpret this as an issue about fake prints (despite the paranoia fake prints are very rare) but more the backdoor prints and the numerous signed but not numbered prints on the market.
So please no more panic about provenance which is already an issue that has been completely blown out of all proportion in this marketplace.
