Have a butchers at this canvas!!!!, by keepingitreal on Sept 23, 2007 13:47:13 GMT 1, As for the value, I try not to think about it seeing as I sold it just after the Crude oils. If I am pushed to say I would think it's worth about 100-150k easy, it is after all a 1 off.
I can tell you more about the exhibition, Buffin already put a link to most of the pieces and the images you see are at the Severnshed;
www.bristolbeat.co.uk/artists/banksy/exhibition.asp.html
When I first walked in to the exhibition the first piece I saw was "You Told That Joke Twice", you know the one with the clown being dragged off by the police. That was the one I wanted but it had already sold. Weston-Super-Mare was the next favourite for me so I bought it. It cost me £700 and when I told my family & friends they thought I had lost the plot.
Have a look through the images on bristol beat and tell me what you would have bought, there were a set of 5 canvases called "do not test" (such a clever idea) I seem to remember a price tag of £3000, I think looking back maybe I should have bought those.
The exhibition lasted for about a week and I went along a few day into the show and still managed to buy a piece, Banksy didn't show his face to the public even then but I don't know if there was a private party or if he was there.
The exhibiton was curated by a man called Robert Birse and I know now that he is not Banksy. It was Birse who took the money, gave me a receipt and hand delivered the canvas to my flat after the show(what service). Oh yeh, the canvas was not signed, only in tag form.

Have a butchers at this canvas!!!!, by danvnuk on Sept 23, 2007 14:53:34 GMT 1, Love this. Keeping it Real - so you say you've sold it on now?
£700 in 2000 was a hell of a lot of money to splash out. What a perceptive piece of buying. Hindsight is a horrible thing eh?

cynical. I get the impression he actually bought it because he liked it, so he gets +1, which saves you from the -1 you deserve.

I'd say you deserve a -1 for being even more cynical than me. There's nothing wrong with owning art that's worth money, and congratulating someone on the fact they made a good investment - the fact he bought something he liked was, as far as I concerned 'a given' - I've only ever bought art I liked - and never for investment purposes.
