Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by fallenangel on Sept 19, 2007 21:59:10 GMT 1, demand drives up prices. The flippers are a JOKE!I can't think for a fair way for it to be done though, i'm gonna keep attempting to buy my Banksy Prints and micallefs but to be honest, i'm being driven out of the market and so i'm looking to buy prints / originals by lesser known artists, pieces that I genuinely love.

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by themightyreds on Sept 19, 2007 22:17:03 GMT 1, It's tough to call on if the high prices deter or encourage money-making by flipping the prints... More they are the more they will make by flipping them.
It's simply people making money (lots of and very quickly) from something that is an object of desire to many others. There's both nothing actually wrong with it, and yet everything wrong with it. A sad reflection of the majority of our society being so money driven...
I wasn't there today, i feel bad for all the people that missed out and i certainly won't be queueing all day in the cold for just a chance of buying a print. Nor will i be buying one from a flippin' flipper on ebay!

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by CR on Sept 19, 2007 22:17:35 GMT 1, Do you think the prices of the Laz Micallef prints have put off the flippers? or has it just put them even more out of reach of the average man on the street so now its only flippers that can afford them? I think its right to say that your average flipper is gonna buy the whole set, and maybe even more than one set and the average true Micallef fan can only afford the one print. So the higher prices is just making sure the flippers get a higher percentage of the print runs and Laz & Artist make a bit more money, and the rest of us end up with nothing
Actually, I still believe that we will see the prices fall right back on these! give it a few weeks and then start this thread again and see where the prices are at!

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by pkt75 on Sept 19, 2007 22:37:18 GMT 1, If your a pro flipper, then you will have the kinda cash Laz/Micallef were askin for today on the ready where as average 'joe bloggs' like myself generally dont. At least with the lower priced prints like 'God i want to be bad' we have a small chance on the secondry market where as with the Laz prints we have no chance. In full, higher priced prints are a deterent alright. The only winners are Laz, Micallef, the flippers and a few lucky fans with a healthy bank balance and a high credit rating. Especially tis close to payday, Why is it that the prints to have seem to be released days before payday?

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by dumpsuk on Sept 19, 2007 22:52:59 GMT 1, Silky, this is exactly the scenario i predicted on another thread weeks ago, when someone else suggested increasing prices to deter flippers. Actually it has the opposite effect, and only increases their profit margin. If the prints were sold for £1 each there would be no flippers...

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by dumpsuk on Sept 20, 2007 17:49:55 GMT 1, On another more cynical note... the pow release of the Micallef print... the way i see it... if Micallef wanted fans to be able to have a piece of his work why produce a limited edition at all. The only reason for producing something in a limited edtion is to make them more desirable by limiting the supply (exactly the opposite of what they say their intetions are!). It seem to me that what they were trying to do was to flood the market to deter flippers as hopefully most fans would get one, however, why put a price tag of £300 on the print. It is a screen print after all and cheap to produce, in the 5 years or so production cost of screenprinting hasn't risen 10 x fold, when pow were selling banksy screenprints for £30. The only reason they're £300 quid is because they STILL want to make £300,000 (only slightly less than laz for his prints). So their logic for detering flippers has fallen flat there because their's still a profit margin in it for them at that price. Anthony if you really want fans to have and appreciate your work, (now you're $2 million richer) why don't you put out an unlimited run of prints at say £30 each??

Prices v Flippers or Flipping Prices?, by Deleted on Sept 20, 2007 17:53:55 GMT 1, I agree with the previous commentors about prices falling. For example, there are some being sold on eBay in the US that will probably sell at cost (they're below cost at the moment) as demand isn't as high. I sound like a broken record, but I really think that if you're in the UK you should shop on the US version of eBay to get a deal. They're selling for less than UK prices. (I have the day off so am watching prices for fun)

One of the most stunning pieces I've ever seen is Richard Wilson's oil room, and I've got no intention of flooding my lounge with crude to 'appreciate' it - no matter how good the investment it might be in 10 years time
