THIS IS BORING, by jboy on Sept 20, 2007 23:03:34 GMT 1, I am not bumping this to piss people off, but there actually is adult conversation going on about art going on, which is more than is going on here at the moment, Every thread, even the ebay thread is about Micallef.
The reason why people are pissed off for is because they thought Laz was the art mecca - the epitamy of art. But this has been proved wrong and laz has f**ked up. Laz is about the money not the art, they dont care.
How many of you would que up for a gallery viewing with no prints for sale. Probably fuck all. Would you have stood in line for nuart?
Events like NUART is about the art. You wont find a flipper in sight. I bet many of you non regular posting members looking at this will think whats the point in something like NUART with nothing for sale. You cant make any money - im not going. Wankers.
The point is that events like this helps everyone win, especially the smaller artists. I could not give less of a s**t about micallef, i cant afford one and don't particularly like them anyway and im not paying a grand for a litho, its pathetic.
No disrespect to those genuine collectors that spent years in a que, you have my respect. But something is a bit wrong when people camp out overnight and then wait for 14 hours. What are people trying to achieve?
The best thing ive read is that someone asked if people would que to help the homeless from 4am. Most of us would say 'f**k that' but why say that to a good cause and not to a piece of paper with some ink on which has no soul.
Now take a look at some of the great pieces that the artists are bringing out from the Nuart show. Maybe some of you did not realise this was happening as people are so far up their arse with the Micallef arguments.
This should be being discussed on this forum, but as it happens its not - its being talked about here:

I have seen some amazing things go up there and the beauty is, you get to watch and take in how skillful the whole thing is whils't watching people smash themselves to smitherines on their bikes or skateboards!

Alright it was not for 14 hours, probably about an hour, but there was nothing to buy. I've queued for lots of exhibitions where there is nothing to buy. I also queue for pretty much 24 hours each year for the RCA secret exhibition, although that admittedly is to buy stuff.
