A thread for members who actually love art, by Winter on Sept 20, 2007 22:11:13 GMT 1, After all the nonsense that has gone on with AM I just wanted to start a thread for focussing on what's great about art. I thought I'd start with a link to a recent Julian Opie show. Class!

How much does this Opie stuff go for? Is it a good investment? what time and where do we queue? How long will it last in the tube or shall I put it into a porfolio?

A thread for members who actually love art, by sausageboonwee on Sept 20, 2007 22:20:07 GMT 1, I'd say these Opie originals are in the same price as Banksy originals. I wouldn't expect a big queue at £50k+ each.
Opie (also a British artist) is an international heavyweight in the art world

I have to say that stuff doesn't really do anything for me at all - simplistic graphic sleaze - sorry if that sounds a bit harsh...

A thread for members who actually love art, by sausageboonwee on Sept 20, 2007 22:55:47 GMT 1, I agree positive is a good thing. I think many people been put off by what's gone on. Some of the more established members from this forum have gone quiet. Maybe feel so sick they've been forced to visit the WC. Regarding the Opie post I like his work. He has his style and he does it well. I wouldn't say no.

A thread for members who actually love art, by slowmo on Sept 21, 2007 0:13:22 GMT 1, Funny, I made this at the weekend, I bloody love Opie, his power is in he can make very simple drawings, but they mean and convey so much, a face can be told with minimum detail, sexiness can be portrayed with far less than you would have imagined and landscapes maybe aren't as grand as you might think! Anyway, this was my take on him

He's the next one on my hitlist, followed closely by Neate, Choe & Small.

Trying to track down a solid dark wood frame but to no avail. don't fancy a veneer, this needs the real deal.

A thread for members who actually love art, by artpartment on Sept 21, 2007 0:51:45 GMT 1, I would love when the people who thinks that they love art are not only running behing the stars of the show.its much more interesting to go to underground gallerys or to art academys and watchings whats coming next and to support new young artists.i think people which spend hours in a line for spending for thousands of dollars for a print in a limited edition of 1000 has nothing to do with love for the art but maybe is easier than to trust theire own taste.when i came here first at the banksy forum i was thinking great so much people wich are interested in art .but i found out that most of them just talk about how nice the prints are framed and how much it cost .who cares ?

A thread for members who actually love art, by artpartment on Sept 21, 2007 1:13:00 GMT 1, for me the first adress to find art is in the art academys.there is many s**t but between there are often great guys with great works.and they are happy when they see that they are people who like their works.there you can still buy original drrawings or painting for a good price .and they are all unique .no 1000 editions wich after everyone has.i dont know so well the art scene in england but i am sure its great not only the hirst, banksy posse.look in the future and belive in your taste and in the young artists.they are no more pictures of my collection in the other threads because i opened i new one.just have a look.

A thread for members who actually love art, by notitle on Sept 21, 2007 1:39:19 GMT 1, hey, no worries. i love it too. just can't find a gallery anywhere with the pieces i'm interested in, and she doesn't answer my emails! still it's nice to look at.
the 'blah blah blah' & 'and per se and' pieces are particular favourites.

A thread for members who actually love art, by funster on Sept 21, 2007 1:48:57 GMT 1, Sweet little post Winter, a nice breath of fresh air! Going slightly off topic but has anyone had any dealings with Arofish? I'm really liking his Angel stuff (completely unrelated to AM) but the £1700 one on EBay is way out of my price right now and the prints don't include the aspect of the canvas I like the most (an angel on a swing over a graveyard, weird I know but poinant). Any info is appreciated ;D

It is indeed.
It's suffering a bit from my art addiction at the moment... also i'm getting so many CDs in the post I don't get a chance to listen to anything properly. A good problem to have I suppose, but I feel guilty being surrounded by piles of unlistened to music!
Don't know if you know David E Sugar but I saw him live tonight... absolutely fantastic. He didn't play 'oi oi new york' for some reason, which is one of the best records this year IMO, but his new single is really growing on me as well...

A thread for members who actually love art, by endtimes on Sept 21, 2007 2:19:13 GMT 1, yeah she's a heavyweight. of course it doesn't inspire me enough to want to have it on my wall.
It does remind me of Cory Archangel. This guy is very cool and has shown at the Whitney Museum, Deitch NYC and more. I saw him once do a live show where he hacked a nintendo and cross bread it with an ipod and dj'ed all night. It was hilarious.
You can buy his pole position screenprint here for only $40! A+ quality and a total steel. Like his work more than Opie because I think his conceptual ideas are way more interesting. Plus it's a whole lot cheaper. www.beigerecords.com/cory/Store/
