Framing queries, by JD on Sept 22, 2007 16:21:14 GMT 1, I have just had some pieces framed with museum quality mount and tape, uv class etc, cost a lot, but 3 of my pieces are coming away from the mount at the sides and top not drasticly but making the print a tad wavy. and one of my prints which is an obey and very large is touching the glass in certain areas. the framers say it is normal because they are paper and held down with only a few pieces of japanese archival tape and have ashured me that my prints will be fine. can anyone shed any light on this is it common and do i have nothing to worry about? Sounds like they are conning you to me. Firstly if you paid a lot they should be perfect and the wavyness will annoy you and secondly they should never touch the glass.I would wait till someone who knows a lot more than me puts up something you can use then print it out and show it to them.

How long did the framers have them? Just wonder if they rushed things and didn't allow the print to have sufficient time to settle before they mounted your work. Also, were the prints kept rolled in their tubes for a long time before you took the work in or were they in a portfolio?

Framing queries, by corblimeylimey on Sept 22, 2007 16:28:45 GMT 1, My framer has said (about framing that I took into them that someone else had done) that a slight waving (just where it meets or comes away slightly from the mountboard) is pretty normal on conservation standard framing, and that in some ways it was a good sign as it shows that it hadn't been excessively stuck all round. Having said that it is possible for it to be totally flat.
