thoughts on the LOTTERY system, by thesewalls on Sept 19, 2007 20:45:25 GMT 1, there was a band i used to see that became so popular - not only as a 'cult', but as a target for flippers - that they began using a lottery system to sell tickets to their shows. this band is now not only defunct, but took a hiatus at one point partially because the soul of their tours was being ruined by people who were only their to make a profit off the scene. it was a messy, sad state of affairs to say the least. most importantly, the music suffered, and like i said, is now no longer.
AM's recent prints remind me of those times...inferior art that's harder to get, more expensive, and is accompanied by madness for all the wrong reasons. server crashes, Faile's recent refund debacle, Fatty McBringmywholefuckingfamily, BINs hours after for TRIPLE the MSRP, yada yada yada. it's no secret that the art market, more specifically the Limited Edition Print market (of course due to it's affordability and adult card collector appeal), is rapidly loosing its soul (in big part thanks to ebay no doubt). I can't help but agree with Faile - and their fans who were nice enough to suggest such - that a lottery system should be implemented in the future for print releases.
what do you all think about the lottery system for print releases? pros and cons? a reality? through artists sites? gallery sites (or in person for that matter)? will it help save our sanity? the quality of the prints/images? the value? make them much harder to get or about the same? deter flippers? attract more? thanks in advance for reading (and responding), and congrats if you got your hands on a print today.
also, i have a Kant Complain that i'd be willing to trade for either Uzi Lover or Minotaur...or something older of course.
PEACE!

thoughts on the LOTTERY system, by rob123rob on Sept 19, 2007 20:51:36 GMT 1, i think that the lottery system has few cons, only if you are unlucky you could miss out on many prints in a row....but, it may be easier just to limit the big releases to one print per person, per artist.....and no kids, and no line cutting..hand out tickets like they do at the deli...now serving customer number 103.

thoughts on the LOTTERY system, by pw on Sept 19, 2007 20:59:01 GMT 1, IMO a lottery system is pointless because the same proportion of prints would still end up in the hands of the flippers. maybe even more if they have time to organise friends and family to apply to the lottery.

and the band Phish homey.
