Name that Flipper..., by Yessir on Sept 20, 2007 2:31:55 GMT 1, ALL you flippers are THIEVES you STEAL information about art, by lurking/spying from behind the scenes on forums like this one, even through you have NO INTEREST in ART. You then use that "STOLEN INFORMATION", to exploit people's love of art for your own selfish gains. The majority of you flippers lurk on this forum so neg- away, I don't give a damn, the truth needs to be told, so if you flipped a Micallef piece YESTERDAY, that you bought YESTERDAY, I have a nasty surprise for you at the bottom end of this post.
I believe there is nothing wrong with making fast easy money (as long as no laws are broken ) , but if you do it in a way that is depriving someone of something that they genuinely have a love or interest in and your only interest is PROFIT.... you do deserve to be EXPOSED for what you are.
I believe we should keep a list on this forum of people who blatantly buy and flip art, only in the name of INSTANT PROFIT.
TO BE CLEAR this post is NOT anti-selling of art, I'm talking about EXTREME acts of flipping i.e. people listing "their", art on Ebay before they have even received it in the post.
A lot of people sell art in this forum, to upgrade, rotate or improve their art collections, I believe this is perfectly logical and means that good art is more than often going to a "good home", as to speak.
The names below are all people who have bought Micallefs YESTERDAY from LAZ or POW that are currently for sale or sold on Ebay YESTERDAY:

Name that Flipper..., by rustyb on Sept 20, 2007 3:22:03 GMT 1, I think it is disgraceful what these people do, yes there is a fast buck to be made but people have a real passion in this, and yet can't afford to feed their passion
There are some really inciteful names there, maybe we should sticky that list

Name that Flipper..., by Dead Elvis on Sept 20, 2007 3:51:39 GMT 1, Respect. All they have to do is change their ebay names and the list is useless. I propose that anyone with the ability to create an extra ebay account do so, and buy all of the BIN auctions, without paying for them. The flippers will have to pay for listing fees regardless so let the games begin!

My brother in law is a "Serial Flipper", anything that can be sold quickly (sometimes without him even having the item in hand) for a quick buck, he'll do it. iPhones, Xbox/Playstation3, if it's been hot in the last year, you better believe he'd found a way to get 20 to sell for absurd markup. I am starting to think there is a profile to these types, as he has the same "face that's beggin' for a fist" look that the guy with all his "daughters" had at Laz today...

and no, flipping is not considered acceptable if the money is used for other art. it is one thing to sell from your collection, and another to flip. your intentions and considerations for true fans, or lack there of in the flippers case, paint your act acceptable or not. basically, you shouldn't have to ask if you're a flipper.
I SECOND THE PURCHASING OF THESE PRINTS WITH FAKE EBAY ACCOUNTS...I'M ON IT!

All ebay users can leave and setup a different account. Just out of interest how many (erhhum) 'online-galleries' are selling the micallef's or neates already? The list should start with them, no?

Name that Flipper..., by dumpsuk on Sept 20, 2007 8:36:19 GMT 1, I like the idea you guys have of setting up ebay accounts to f*ck up the ebay auctions, however a word of WARNING... it was clear from the queue yesterday at LAZ (i was one of the unlucky ones - after 10hours) that a CRIMINAL element has infiltrated the buying/selling of the work right now. This is always going to happen when a commodity can be bought and sold immediately for a huge profit. There were many people in the queue that had been paid to stand and wait all day for a print they knew nothing about (it was akin to the Morecombe Bay cocklers, I kid you not)... so be carefull, e(vil)bay are only too happy to give out your personal information, i.e. telephone numbers, and home address (in the interest of completing the transaction of course), please use false information if this is the action you going to take. be safe.

Name that Flipper..., by dburn on Sept 20, 2007 8:44:52 GMT 1, ok then... if per say you really liked two prints that were in your portfolio but wanted to sell them or swap for just one print that you liked more, is that wrong? i dont see what is all that wrong with purchasing prints to sell or swap with others as long as the money stays in art and that you arent just doing it for profit... yes this is unfair to the people who may really like the work and give it a good home, who may even deserve it by being the devoted fans they are... but... hold on, im trying to find a way to say this next line without sounding cliche... oh screw it, thats life! its not fair that i have to buy banksy on the secondary market for two, three times its original price. So how dreadful really is it that a fan of the arts buys stock in an artist that maybe they are not completley head over heals in love with but still can appreciate it. who knows maybe one day they'll realize the image grew on them and they couldnt sell it. or hell, they use the investment as an asset to trade for others that better appeal to their liking... whos really to judge you for whatever it is you do with the work... as long as the money stays in art and your not using originals to role cigars with. i cant say i see the problem. Would love some constructive enlightenment...

Name that Flipper..., by johnas on Sept 20, 2007 10:07:58 GMT 1, For all those that are suggesting sabotaging auctions, please don't waste your time. OK, so flipping is bad, you're unhappy and angry - I'm with you. BUT sh1t happens and life goes on and no amount of naming and shaming is gonna change that. And, to be fair, you don't know the circumstances behind these sales.
Can I suggest if you are unhappy, then you just boycott the ebay sales, as has been mentioned in another thread. This will be a much more productive, and dare I say it, less childish course of action.

If folks concentrated more on the next desired purchase and less on whining about missing out on something they missed then more prints would be going into the "right" hands.

Name that Flipper..., by knox on Sept 20, 2007 10:40:57 GMT 1, I have mixed feelings on this. If people are listing before they even have the print in hand then obviously that is disgraceful and there should be a system in place to stop people from recieving them to sell on. POW should be able to contact ebay and cancel the offenders order. But at the end of the day they are doing nothing illegal so who are we to name and shame?
I have sold a few prints for huge profit. Grin Reaper - bought for £400, sold 9 months later because I saw them going for £4,000 and I like £4,000 more than I did that print. Does that make me a flipper? I don't think so, it makes me sensible.

Name that Flipper..., by GD303uk on Sept 20, 2007 10:43:01 GMT 1, Some names on that list are genuine collectors, with the criminal and scaly element buying these to turn a £$ you can’t blame them for flipping, its going to happen this art scene is safer than selling drugs a year ago I came here and was surprised even then @ the amount of selling that was happening at first I was annoyed as I had only ever paid for art I intended to keep and love ( first purchase in the eighties, still on my wall) , but over the year I have sold a few prints and got a few more, art collecting is now a way of increasing your collections value sales and trades we all do it, what seems to rancor everybody is the so called pikey scaly criminal even poor element buying and selling, Respected members do it we have created this market of buy and sell, we are paying the price for its popularity and ease of making money, Thatcher taught us well, I think apart from missing out on a print there seems to be an elitist element about the complaining, to poor to hang a picture, scalies and pikey this sounds like midle class winging, this scene is corrupt and full of greed , it is depressing for me but I bet the dealers and artist are very pleased, yesterday did remind me of a bogus Pistols gig, An excitement has been created for this art and it is far from what we initially were interested in, free or affordable urban art away from the marketing and high brow world of elitist art, its no longer for us we have changed also our tastes and prices we are willing to pay, this is the same for the flippers, scalpers carpet baggers etc we are the exploited and the purps in this affair, that list shows that , I don’t know the solution or even if there is one, this has happened before in the 60's and will happen again, eventually some of the prints we paid £1000s for will just be paper with a faded picture on. Hope we like them then
neg away i am pissed off with the whole scene, so i couldnt give a f**k about the respect s**t.
