Name that Flipper..., by Yessir on Sept 20, 2007 10:47:23 GMT 1, I don't like flippers any more than you do, but I think its pretty disgraceful that you're pinning their details to a message board & inciting people to boycott them. SE
Where do you see in what I wrote, that I am INCITING people to boycott what FLIPPERS sell?
I and no one else can end the practice of flipping, but that does not mean I can't turn a bright light on their selfish activities ( we live in a democracy), for all to see.
Flippers have remained anonymous for too long and need to be exposed for what they are, I'm not encouraging anyone to go and sabotage Ebay auctions, but just to highlight, the clear fact that they are buying from a blatant FLIPPER and the decision to buy is up to them....
I know I will personally never buy anything from any of the flippers on this list, as buying "THEIR ART", is feeding the problem.
I am not going to apologise for OUTING FLIPPERS, if you don't like it, post and tell me why or take the easy option and neg- me if it makes you feel better about yourself.

Name that Flipper..., by Daniel Silk on Sept 20, 2007 10:49:08 GMT 1, Before I start I would just like to say Im in no way supporting these people that are selling prints within hours of them going onsale
I think we should all take care in what we say about this sort of thing Its easy for us to sit here and judge people we don't know, coz we might not know the full story. I think we imagine some prat in a convertible BMW waltzing up and buying a stack of prints from laz, and then selling them straight away on ebay and makes £20,00 profit in 24 hours I know many of you have really good jobs and earn good money ;D and well done to ya! ;D but for some of these people making a fast buck on something like this can be the difference in turning their life around OK! Im not saying thats how it is in all cases but take care! The galleries use the hype of these resales to create more demand, so are these people actually doing just what the galleries really want?

Name that Flipper..., by shogun on Sept 20, 2007 11:00:47 GMT 1, If you feel strongly I say dont sink to their level. I for one would be boycotting the prints even if they were to go less than cost. The forum has a lot of members. It may not stop all the prints being sold but it sure can sway demand for the prints. There are a lot of members here. As for selling your collection. When the bubble bursts I'll still have my pieces as i brought them to look at and enjoy... Not to make a quick buck. Once the market steadies the baggers will be off bagging something else. Forget them - the 'scene' will still be here after they've left.
Also - the baggers may be bagger the bigger names but there are still some lesser known artists out there who make some great art. It seems a lot of us have become accustomed to buying up art because of the artist - not the art itself. Truth be told I though all but the soldier were crap. Its like buying a pair of armani jeans so all can see the armani wings on your arse - forget about it.

I understand that people are unhappy but I think that setting up fake ebay accounts to purchase the prints will only complicate things.

Name that Flipper..., by scavos on Sept 20, 2007 11:11:53 GMT 1, I can live without them, in fact I have decided I can live without my whole collection, which is going up for sale in the coming days. I dont want things on my wall that represent what I saw yesterday. Rgds
Hey Wez, I was going to pm you but I thought I should post instead. I can imagine it was pretty disgusting to have seen some of the sh1te going on yesterday, especially the fighting/assaulting. I really do empathise.
I would advise you just take a few days to have a think things through though mate before you take the drastic action of selling up and shipping out. This will no doubt give you a more rounded perspective.
Although I haven't seen your collection I strongly believe the prints you have on your walls will not represent what you saw yesterday. They are most likely signed by the artist who has passed that print as something they have produced and are proud to sell. All the hard work and artistic talent encapsulated in each piece.
Now most artists would love the attention given to Banksy and Micaleff and I'm sure they appreciate all the interest and recognition this gives them. I would strongly doubt that these artists would have wanted the chaos of yesterday to have occurred. Granted, that may be a different story for some promoters.
However. it is nothing but greed that represents what you saw yesterday and that is a very different matter. In reality the situation with flippers will probably get worse before it gets better - we have the next Banksy release to look forward to remember. It certainly taints what should be an occasion to be cherished which is very sad indeed.
That said, we should keep doing what this forum does best by having fun, sharing ideas, views, looking out for each other, debating, arguing, falling out, making up, swapping/trading, introducing new artists/works.
We should never let the flippers win by destroying what most of us here love - good quality vandalism, graffiti, art and banter.
Peace.

Name that Flipper..., by gbh on Sept 20, 2007 11:19:29 GMT 1, oh what a fun 24 hours!
I feel strangely reminiscent about my post in another thread re the theft of street art. This whole thing wouldn't of happened and no one would be upset if everyone was honest and fair and cool, etc., etc. Think I said something along the lines of "wake the fuck up, come back to the real world, snap out of it". Think I'll just say it again... There are things that suck in the world, this past day has been one of them for many ppl. Should we all throw flowers around and kiss a bit and skip, or get out there, take what we want, have a good time? If you are not the one perpetuating the problem, rest assured others are. I'm solidly on the perpetuation team (yes yes, I know that perpetuates the problem..guess I've just turned to the dark side and began living in the real world).
flame/neg as necessary.

Name that Flipper..., by rolyateel on Sept 20, 2007 11:30:22 GMT 1, i agree it's annoying - especially if you've just missed out on a good print - but there really is nothing you can do if you set up a false ebay account & bid, they'll get their fees back due to a "non-paying bidder" you'll cause them slight probelms, but hardly worth doing.
you could also lay blame at the feet of people with more money than sense that'll happily lay out 3x cost on a print that went on sale the same day.
