Into The Mainstream, by Existencil on Sept 10, 2007 11:21:48 GMT 1, What does an artist have to do to get exhibited in the large high brow galleries like the Tate Modern? Is it just a case of waiting for years before a body of work is recognised or is there some other criteria? I was walking around the Tate the other day & I could easily imagine the likes of Adam Neate, Ian Francis & Matt Small having a presence there. How long will it take for the 'mainstream' galleries to recognise their genius?

small and francis??, i think the fact that you can easily pick up prints by these two and the odd original. Shows that youv got a long time before we see there work in top galleries!
Who knows, it probably wont even be in our life time

You can never say never, a "respected" critic on a whim says an artists work in inspirational, cutting edge and thought provoking, and with enough tailwind, you are into the big time. Also what is said on here and possibly countless other sides makes a difference too!

Im not really up on London galleries and how the Tate works But I would think it comes down to Money at the end of the day The people who decide what goes up at the Tate might have connections behind the scenes with some posh galleries, so they buy up pieces, push for a Tate show, and they then get a back hander from the gallery Im not saying thats true, but.......
