restoration people, by Paul on Sept 6, 2007 21:36:09 GMT 1, i have a warhol hand drawn image that i need restoring. its about 35 odd years old and has faded somewhat and there is a tiny bit of damage to the corner. anyway... i've been quoted 300 to essentially seal it and stop the rot. its not a huge amount of dosh, compared to the picture, but i dont have much confidence in the people who quoted me.
has anyone had work restored and if so, how did it go and would you recommend anyone in london that specialises in this kind of thing? thank you kindly

restoration people, by Michael Jacob on Sept 6, 2007 21:41:03 GMT 1, a good thing to do is check with your local art museums. they can usually give good references to contact.

cheers, will do. i had a banksy bomb middle england taken off a wall at work a couple of months ago by some historic restorers. they did a terrific job, as did john jones on the framing. all went very well (and costly) until the people who came to hang the picture screwed the batons wrong and caused a big crack down the middle of it! sods. lucky, it was insured and is apparently repairable, although have already spent about £15k on getting it this far!

restoration people, by baldwin on Sept 6, 2007 22:03:36 GMT 1, I have some screen prints with all sorts wrong with them. There are a few dinks on the sides. There are ripples and at one point the ripple has nearly become a fold. There are also some creases. I am sure I could find some finger smudges if I looked closley enough.
Suprisingly, these things are quite hard to notice, but I know they are there. What do you think the chances of sorting this lost out by using a restorer? Anyone had any experience with this?

If I took those into a restorer they would tell me to fuck off ;D They are currently white tacked onto the wall but I want to get away from my student ways. I want to frame them soon but don't want to spend a fortune. I'm thinking of doing it all myself.

They are about 82 x 62cm. They are done on presentation paper hence the odd size.
My first step is too find some moulding. My father is in the glass business, so I can get glass dirt cheap. I have a couple of weeks free, so I am going to make it my little project ;D
