I own my own home, am just starting a new career and can afford to throw money at fine art works, but I have no dependants.

Does this happen when you have kids?
Marketing people refer to the 25 - 39 age group (which I'm still in thankfully ) as the superyouth, meaning that we still play Xbox and other things aimed at younger people, into our 40's. however, I've started to make those bizarre sounds when I bend down to pick something up of the floor  ;D

Hehe, competitive dad syndrome, you'll be buying the kids remote control helicopters on their 1st birthday just so you can play with more toys!.. I'm in the same category (with no dependents) but I notice that kids these days eat console games (and happy meals) for breakfast!
Sorry to spoil your fun but you would have to play xbox/ps3 every waking hour from now until you have kids if you have any chance of beating the little critters 
Speaking of PS3. I can't believe it was aimed at the below 20 market. I mean have you seen the the number of expansion ports on that thing! It's definitely aimed at technogeeks like me who were brought up on 80s/90s consoles ;D

I too have joined the elite 40 club this year as well.
I came to Japan when I was 22 and sometimes think I'm still that young man.
It's a young state of mind that keeps me going. Although those bizzare sounds do remind me I'm old. I could still fit into my college days clothes until my son was born then it all went horribly wrong. Kids do make one grow up in a hurry but still love doing the same things I did when I was younger, just in moderation

I'm 36 and feel every one of those years most of the time. It is the kids that do it.
But I have just started playing Theme Park World with my 5 year old on the PS2 so maybe there is hope...

i was just about to say the same thing. i'm 39 later on this month and didn't feel my age at all until my daughter was born.
dunno if it is the lack of sleep or whatever but the old bones have really started to creak in the last 6 months or so. i still play footie a couple of times a week but the recovery period is getting longer and longer and i hadn't really noticed that before.

If I'm hungover on a saturday now i'm still fooked on Monday. I'd hate to think what comedowns would be like now!

Maybe we should seriously consider a trip to fabric after the awards ceremony as Xmas? I've been wanting to go for ages....

Into new music etc, just wish I was fitter, I see swimming/gym on the horizon.

I used to go out drinking stupid amounts, get to bed at 2-3, and be able to work a full day stacking shelves at Kwiksave when I was 18 with no real trouble. Nowadays I take much longer to recover.

My mates have kids and are just starting to look at houses with partners - I feel old though as I can remember the Millennium like it was a fortnight ago, the years are starting to fly by....

Been an interesting last 5 years following a divorce and am buying my house for the second time. Luckily I didn't have an art collection at the time. Not much spare money but having the best time of my life. Not got a Banksy yet but hope to put that right at some point. Love Beejoir's work. Still love punk rock - big Green Day fan. Big Ian Hunter fan (the old young dude is now in his 60s but still the coolest man on the planet!).

Yes love all that and it was so right at the time. A real kick up the ass for music, fashion and the establishment. Vivienne Westwood is an artist also imo though she doesn't use a canvas. Some of the things that Banksy says in pictures I think Green Day say in their music. By the way for those of you that have never heard of Ian Hunter, check the dude out on his forthcoming UK tour. Queen, The Clash, Def Leppard etc etc always quote him as big infleunces on their careers.

Mid life Crises and all that And KIDs making you feel your age or older?? ;D I am over 40 ;D and I have a 21yr old son. Does he make me feel my age NO ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D quite the revers actually. We have the same interests in both music and art. Although we rarely socalise, he may go down to Fabric which I would never do, now or 21yrs ago, it was never my scene but I still love the loud bars and LIFE ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D and we get on really well, we respect each other. He told someone yesterday that I was Cool.  ;D How old do I feel? well no older than when I had him which is YOUNG. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Being a woman and looking at my sisters and their male other half's I am afraid to say it seems to me you men age a lot faster than we women in both mind and body.  My husbands older than me but most of my four sisters are married to men 7 to 10yrs younger than themselves I love my husband but do wonder, where did that young man go. And before you say anything re responsibilities I had my own home before marrying and have worked and been independent all my life and run my own business which can be VERY demanding. The secret to youth..BE POSITIVE. SMILE and BE HAPPY they say laughter makes you younger, well cheaper than a face lift I'd say. ;D Silky POSITIVE THINKING is the best way to being and getting well and I know about that more than most. 39 - 40 a great time in your life and kids great fun. Stop moaning about your age and enjoy it you lucky buggers. However, it has 12 ft ceilings and will look like a gallery when it's finished.
I'm absolutely knackered!

I'm 43 and have just filled an 8 ton skip with manky carpet from the house I'm renovating that will need 9 months of work before we move in. I feel about 65. However, it has 12 ft ceilings and will look like a gallery when it's finished. I'm absolutely knackered! sounds a cool project mate - best of luck and make sure you plan where your prints are going!!! |
