Advice on hanging a metal piece above a radiator, by a4mnt on Sept 11, 2007 10:26:13 GMT 1, Ordinarily I wouldn't even contemplate hanging a print above a radiator, but I have no idea how the heat would effect a metal piece.
and here is the canvas :
The piece is a metre wide steel with cellulose aerosol spray paint. It is then attached to a MDF backing with no more nails type glue and then the frame is mounted to the MDF backing.
The whole thing would hang around 20 - 30 cm above the radiator, as it is is quite large.
Is it wise to hang it here or look for another space in the house?
Thanks

Advice on hanging a metal piece above a radiator, by Ågent ßacardi on Sept 11, 2007 11:04:51 GMT 1, Seriously though, heat has a tendency to attract moisture, and you know how moisture and metal aren't exactly best friends. I would definitely advise you to look for another wall... or decommission your radiator

Advice on hanging a metal piece above a radiator, by a4mnt on Sept 11, 2007 11:23:51 GMT 1, as Zippy suggested, i already knew the answer to this question. I'm just in denial.
Unfortunately the rad heats the lounge and as much as i could glow in the warmth of this fabulous new piece, i don't think my flatmates would be too pleased in a few months.
Underfloor heating, thats the way forward. Every wall would then be available. One of my best mates has just moved to a house with underfloor heating everywhere, i'm so jealous. Luckily his taste in wall furnishings is shit, otherwise i'd be even more jealous!!
Thanks everyone.
+1's all round (when available)

Advice on hanging a metal piece above a radiator, by njr911 on Sept 11, 2007 11:27:35 GMT 1, my eelus is above a rad, not a problem now but in winter the rad will need to be on. I need a radiator shelf I recon. Underfloor heating is no go with a Yorkshire Stone floor...the joys of living in a cottage from 1860!

Advice on hanging a metal piece above a radiator, by a4mnt on Sept 11, 2007 14:45:11 GMT 1, What would I do without your helpful, constructive suggestions eh Matt?
I was thinking about getting rid of my car as its bad for the environment and getting a set of wheels fused on to my legs instead.
any suggestions?
