since ollieollieollie was brave enough to show his work, im going to take a leaf outta his book and show mine, as ive seen people post their 'fine art' stuff, but never design
i thought it might be of interest to some people to see some graphic design, as im sure a few people talked about on this forum would have started off in a graphic design course - paul insect being one ( i think )
anyway ive just finished the 1st year of my degree, and took some pics of what went on in 1st year, comments appriciated - positive or negative and if theres any questions - ask away 
self portrait project ... this is me ;D
some life drawings in pencil and paint ( weird colours going on - was hungover )
playing cards design - it was basically an open brief but we had 2 have a theme, i chose pace invaders, the black squares are actual holes - was just mounted on black card
future product design - design a product for the future, design, and advertise it
angel project - made a stencil
type tv show design - design a logo and advertise a tv show about the history of type
text is picture ( or somethin like that ) design - i used ripped up posters and whatnot
sorry about the long post, hope u like the stuff, and if theres any questions about it all please ask away - im usually quite friendly ;D

I would say this is probably the more artistic side of graphic design - verging on fine art graphics.
Graphic Design is taught differently all around the UK and there is one or two main places which are actually any good at it and alot of the students get snapped up to work on big brands in London from these places, but they are however the more commercial side of design.
Like the way the typographic logo looks though and the Angel looks good (this is my stencil love opinion coming through!)

The last 'text is picture' works really well. Angel stencil is cool. The only ones I'm not too keen on are the nude ones of you, then I just don't want you to start a trend and have CBL, Frankie, Jboy and others posting naked pictures of themselves.

i know what your saying about the fine art side, in my art school, the 1st year is a general year, where you do all sorts, alot of the projects have the same brief given to illiustraters, fashion ect .. and u have to put your own spin on it

I love the way colleges use nicknames...
DOJ is funny, alot of my mates went the SCAT (Somerset College), I went to NSAD (Norwich art school) and there is also APU (cambridge) and NAG (northumbria)

Your work still maintains a visually appealing aesthetic, although I think you could find that there elements that you oculd leave out whilst still getting acroos your message.

Part 2, by graeme501 on Sept 9, 2007 1:05:25 GMT 1, thanks jaypaav, i welcome constructive critisism, and i agree where you are coming from, alot of the time its difficult to remove some parts that you like from something u have created, but hopefully next year, when im focusing only on graphics, ill learn what is crutial and what can be discarded without the message being lost
