Brandalism, by scavos on Sept 4, 2007 15:58:05 GMT 1, Good spot becks. I like the sentiment. Don't know if I could do it. Love my gadgets too much! Suspect I'd be a better person for it though if I could. I admire the chap.

Brandalism, by becksaboo on Sept 4, 2007 16:11:03 GMT 1, i think in theory it's a great idea and i'd love to be able to do it but there's, sadly, not enough independent stores/markets where i live and i don't have the time to hunt through the internet each week for food. In London I imagine it's a lot easier.

Brandalism, by Strange Al on Sept 4, 2007 16:22:55 GMT 1, The reason it's in the press now is because his book about the experiment is just coming out (no irony there). There was a long extract in the Times or Observer (can't now remember which) a few weeks back. It was actually a pretty good read. I'm half tempted to buy the book.
Incidentally, I think designer "street art" is one of the first things that would have to go on the bonfire. This scene has effectively made Banksy, DFace, Micallef et al brands.

I'd definitely count companies like POW as brands too, and I if you're talking about brands and street art then Obey is the obvious starting point.
Edit: I'm not saying that brands are necessarily a bad thing though. Edit2: It's more our relationship with a brand that can be bad, it' a two way thing, etc

I think I read somewhere maybe in Nude magazine that he would only give interviews because it wasn't a brand in the sense that it is a public broadcaster but then it still makes money from dvd sales etc so I suppose the question is what is a brand?
I remember having to read the No Logo book for uni but got a bit bored with it all
Tis all a bit ironic

Funny you say that Pelle. Totally agree. I thought exactly the same when I got the end of the piece and noticed he's releasing the book about it all.

Brandalism, by baldwin on Sept 4, 2007 18:00:20 GMT 1, I think what he's doing is really cool and fashionable. Maybe he could open up a chain of 'no brand' stores.
Excuse the sarcasm. I like the idea, but it does seem a bit of a stunt to get on Richard & Judy and sell some books .
