Negative respect sniping, by a4mnt on Sept 5, 2007 14:34:39 GMT 1, I would assume that most people would like to be respected in the society they are in. They work for that respect by gaining people's trust, helping other people, being a friend, being themselves. Clearly its not possible to gain everyones respect and thats understandable.
Thats why our respect system is so good, I think. Not many people come on here pissed on a Friday night and start throwing abuse about as they don't want to lose respect. Not only from other people but for themselves.
It seems that we all like to let other people know when we have given them a +1 and so we should. Its a vote of confidence. It also lets that person know that they have gained a little extra in society - and more importantly it lets them know why.
In the same way, being 'disrespected' by other parts of society allows you to understand their views and maybe make yourself a better, or at least wiser person because of it. But only when you understand why they are not in agreeance with what you've said.
I'll put my hands up and admit to negging people in the past. Nowhere near as often as I have plussed people. I'm trying to avoid negging now if I can. I've even made it clear with certain flippers that I don't like the way they do things, but i've avoided negging them uneccessarily for it.
My point here being that nothing is learnt if you have no idea what it is that you have said that has annoyed someone so much that they have decided to take a well earned respect point away. All it creates is annoyance and its downright cowardly really (as I've admitted, we've all done it most likely). I've been negged about 3 times today and I've no idea why. All I've done is come on and bantered in the normal way. Thats more my reason for coming on the board, to chat to like minded people. Sometimes I even remember that I'm on here to keep an eye on the when the next big release is blah blah blah, but for me now, its much more of a social tool to talk to some sound people.
Because of this, in future, if I feel the need to neg someone, I'm at least going to give them a reason why, otherwise what have they learnt? And all I feel is cowardly.
I really hope that other people start doing the same and give people the chance to learn from their 'mistakes'.
Rant over.

Negative respect sniping, by streetgirl on Sept 5, 2007 14:44:18 GMT 1, Isn't there a way of having to submit comments when you + or - respect someone?
It could be a generic list of 5 + reasons and 5 - reasons, rather than an option to leave personal comments as I can imagine this would be problematic.
Or at least see who is + or - ing you?
I hope with this thread Cracka, the whole respect issue is resolved...
Peace.

Yep! Im always on the look out for double accounts, and obvious negative respect targeting If you feel you are UNFAIRLY being targeted, please dont post about it on the forum, just PM me Thank you! ;D
For anyone that does have two accounts, and does use the respect system to deliberately target people, take care! Is it really worth risking being banned from all the forums?
I will lock this thread now, coz its best for everyone to move forward in a positive way, so please just PM me with any worries ;D
