how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by rob123rob on Sept 6, 2007 1:22:58 GMT 1, Besides the little note on recent exhibitions not being his, when was the last time the Banksy website was updated. Like most on here, he's my favourite artist, yet his website is the one I visit the least. Give us something, change something, mix it up a bit. Is it just me?

how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by a4mnt on Sept 6, 2007 11:37:48 GMT 1, I doubt he needs to expand on that sort of self promotion?
For an anonymous artist taking a stand against the corporate world, surely an all singing all dancing website is the opposite of what he is all about, as it is seen as the signature piece of any corporate branding.
Or maybe he just can't be bothered.
I doubt he needs to expand on that sort of self promotion?

how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by artfortruth on Sept 6, 2007 14:36:24 GMT 1, Oh come on, of course Banksy cares about his image. I agree, the site needs some more zing to it. It doesn't stand out on the web the same way his work stands out on the streets. This would be easy for them to accomplish if they gave it the time.
Does anyone remember Evil Pupil (www.evilpupil.com/)? That site used to be a massive maze riddled with puzzles and passcodes and if you weren't smart enough you couldn't navigate through it. Brilliant and simple idea for artists like Banksy.
Anyway, what's this I hear about keeping the message on the street? That idea has been blown away with the wind many many years ago. I mean christ, look at the book he just published. It's everywhere I go. I bet I could even buy a copy at my local GAP or Grocery Store. That concept can't be reclaimed at this point, IMO. Especially since his work is on gallery and museum walls now.
So yeah, to return to the topic... That site needs updating for sure. I too very rarely visit it nowadays.

Banksy is the most corporate of them all in my opinion, he has become exactly what he was against in the first place. He has management teams and is in the same boat as hirst where he can just draw something and get his minions to do it while he has a fag and a cider.
Edit: IMO
But it is true.

This is all speculation to how much of a team he has behind him now, legally i would imagion he certainly needs a manager - LAZ
other than that - why does he need minions to do stuff for him? hes done virtually chuff all since he hit the big screen and the world has been awakened to his work!!!

There is no way one bloke can do all that work for the galleries, do you think he painted that elephant in LA as well as doing the rest of the exhibition. Unless he is superman i very much doubt it.
All of the big artists have teams behind them. There is an exhibit on at the moment at the Design Museum of a middle eastern architect. The whole exhibtion is hers. There is 3D renders, scale models, small building models and massive blue prints.
Which bit of the exhibition did she have most input into?
Answer: The three books of crappy sketches in a glass case in the corner. She draws - the rest do the hard work.
Hirst is the same. If anyone knows that its me, one of my mates works in his workshop in London painting butterflies and sticking glass to paintings

how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by dave313perry on Sept 6, 2007 19:59:22 GMT 1, I think the elephant is a little bit of an exception.
I would expect he would create the Canvas work himself - he would have someone or some people to help him with streetwork, but would be present and having a large input - there are videos on youtube for a start.
the majority of his work was done before he was a large enough artist to be able to employ these people you talk of but no doubt they are there from now on though. IMO of course
pure speculation but i dont think this would be far off his situation

If it is unimportant in the life of a street artist, then why have it at all?

He's proberbly not interested, why does it have to be flash? also from what Ive heard he donates a lot of his cash to charity so why give it to web designers. He doesnt sell on the site so who cares, keep it on the street, best place for it.

how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by foreman on Sept 6, 2007 21:12:40 GMT 1, IMO .. i think the only reason he has the website is to authenticate his street art... yes i kno banksy has a very recognizable style ...
but we will never know for example... if the new banksy on the street with the artist painting the p***s is an actual banksy until he puts it on his site and says it him...

how boring is Banksy.co.uk, by pkt75 on Sept 6, 2007 22:20:22 GMT 1, Lets face it! Why should he update his website? He has himself in a position where he can make a mint from us with minimal effort, so why the need to self promote? I mean, the website would be money and effort he would have to put in to give his fans and followers something for free, and those of us that cant afford his work, a place of reference other than the 'My Banksy collection's bigger than yours' type 'news flashes' you get on this forum. Now why would he want to do that?
Banksy is now a household name with a shit website and as much as he may hate that, he will soon take comfort in the thought of not being able to remember the last time he ate beans on toast because its all he could afford.
I love his work and this is jus how i see it on this particular subject so please take this into account before you neg me!!!
Cheers

It will be updated in due time when he has something good to show us.
There are plenty of lack luster artist out there who are all about quantity not quality. Thats just not Banksy's style.......thats why he's so Fucking Rad!.......Banksy values quality over quantity......if you want quantity check out obeygiant.com every Tuesday.
I truly hope he doesn't ever turn the site into some flash infested corporate f**k off and give me your money and I'll send you a t-shirt website......

Banksy will release a print of 750 and have the cheek to call it limited edition, not to mention the amount of editions of 'Wall and piece' that have been released. It was selling in every bookshop going, WHSmith had it on offer! We have bought the the soft back, the hard back, the 10% more crap and the signed edition. Why update his website when he can sell us all a book! Great work that is quality but dont talk to me about quantity. Banksy is a Brand and he wants it!!! IMO

She is an amazing artist as well. Cant find the painting I saw in the guggenheim last year but heres a cool one.
