eBay price jumps, by bond on Jun 5, 2007 9:32:00 GMT 1, hi - - i wonder this everytime a banksy auction appears .
It really does baffle me why so many people declare their hand so early . There's nearly a week to go and it's already out of reach .
I was watching the Sepia morons auction that started Saturday , it runs for 7 days and is already at £ 2,800.
The usual mentality on ebay is to bid at the last minute ,that's when most of the bid activity tends to take place , but in the case of Banksy everyone piles in and things get silly early !!!
WHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

eBay price jumps, by Montubu7 on Jun 5, 2007 9:33:59 GMT 1, I would guess its other people who own the print as well, if its worth £10,000 & they get it up to £8-9.000 within a few days theres more chance of it 'Breaking records' happens all the time now

Many people are plain foolish when they get into a bidding situation... even one as laxed as a 7 day ebay auction. I attend quite a few art auctions and I always go in with what I feel is a fair price to pay for each thing I plan to bid on printed on a piece of paper so there is no mental negotiating when the auction starts. When the lot comes up if the price goes over my set number, I'm done. c'est la vie! I see so many people who get into the competitive bidding mentality and WAY overpay for things because they don't think about their bid, they react to someone else's. They feel some bazaar competitive need to always be the high bidder... while the intelligent and educated buyer only cares about being the last bidder and getting something at the best price and in the best bidding situation.

That is very disciplined and fair play to you. I think the problem with buying (original) art at auction is that you are bidding for a one-off. So if you don't win this particular auction you will never get another chance to own that particular piece of work. This can have a real effect on how much you are prepared to pay for piece.
The same cannot be said for multiples when it is easier to impose a limit and then, if the limit is exceeded, to wait for the next one to come along.

eBay price jumps, by Winter on Jun 5, 2007 11:16:51 GMT 1, Sepia Morons now at £2900 with 4 days to go. I think Morons is starting to pull in line with other signed Banksy works. I think these will hit 4k in a couple of months.

eBay price jumps, by bond on Jun 5, 2007 11:33:04 GMT 1, you serious ? £ 6k is a lot but as we all know , in a while it could look cheap !
i think this print os one of the most iconic so will always fetch a premium.
Once all the LA prints are done and dusted and we all know that there will be a gap for a while as there is nothing else to be released i think all prices will start to shoot again

if i buy that and have to pay for my impending wedding in credit my chances of fathering a child will surely diminish !!!

eBay price jumps, by a4mnt on Jun 5, 2007 12:54:23 GMT 1, unbelievable that something as simple as a signature (and, albeit, a smaller print run) can change a £1500 print into a £10000 print.
wonder if banksy would take a grand off me for signing my barcode ;D

eBay price jumps, by bond on Jun 5, 2007 13:10:21 GMT 1, exactly - it's just blind panic and not very shrewd , prices go up too much too fast on these auctions.
The barcode has gone up £ 3k today and napalm will just fly now the BIN option has gone.
You can punch me in the face and call me susan if it does'nt hit £ 2k by the end of the day .

eBay price jumps, by pezlow on Jun 5, 2007 13:17:53 GMT 1, On the other hand there is an argument that if you bid an item up early to £££'s you might put off other bidders.
I'm not sure it is right to say that the people buying banksy's on ebay are novices. Most of the signed seem to be ending up in the hands of quite sophisticated art buyers at the moment (galleries, big collectors etc.)

Funny.
A unsigned Napalm went a day or two ago for £860...
I find this kind of bidding just mental it just feeds a vicious circle of market craziness...I bet the gallleries will increase their prices accordingly. Betcha. Betcha.
