Thats a good point, I bet you wouldnt if you started painting that in your street, well not unless you live in Brick lane anyway.

Permission To Paint???, by Art-el on Aug 20, 2007 23:13:56 GMT 1, Permission to Paint - Best thread title in a while.
Frankie, surely your not insinuating that there are tough talking, rufty, tufty street artists out there who get permission before dropping a daring piece in a precarious place?
Don't ruin the dream, you'll be telling me that Santa & the toof fairy are also a blag.

A lot of artists do get permission, which is a ripe environment for others to blag their way through painting in daylight.

It's certainly original to just paint teeth all the time, but you'd think he might branch out. Maybe toenails next?

They brighten up the places where they are painted. I love stumbling across them and get a very similar buzz to when you used to spot new Banksy's with them. A lot of people graf their name on walls (not tagging), I like this take on doing a similar thing, large scale, but instead of lettering, you get these smiling skulls staring out at you on a massive wall. You get boards screwed in with other images and paste ups. I find them very creative. Certainly more exciting than whoever is currently spraying up the stencils in red that say I worship the ground you moon walk on on the floor.
On the corner of my street, the last house, someone has spray painted little loves amyin large black letters. If I owned that house, I know what I would prefer to spring up overnight.

Permission To Paint???, by Strange Al on Aug 21, 2007 10:48:16 GMT 1, Thanks for posting the pics Frankie.
I watched the guys paint the one in Dalston (first pic) on Friday afternoon/evening. It was fun watching the local neighbourhood gawp at the boys at work and I'll say that more than a few people asked whether they had permission. I'll let you guess what their answer was.

Permission To Paint???, by Macdeee on Aug 21, 2007 11:13:32 GMT 1, Im not a massive fan of sweet toof and cyclops..... But the sheer scale of the work and the fact they are probably the most "up" at the moment in the east end is making me admire them. If not just for the fact these guys have balls! Sickboy's temple makes the dalston piece work. Sickboy rules!

Permission To Paint???, by Art-el on Aug 21, 2007 11:31:18 GMT 1, I don't think these guys are are going rock up and start painting your average street of 3 bed semi's so I'm sure there teeth are safe from your bat.
Also as pezlow mentioned they are often in s**tty derilict places.
Although not a massive fan of these artists recognized style and subject (although it's growing on me fast) the way they're going about things at present is awesome, no shy retiring little piece in Brick lane etc. Thats not a dig just a place I'm using as reference.
For me the way these three are painting, in regards to size and scale makes the work almost inconsequential. With this streetwork it is size and scale that gives me the buzz.
Sets of teeth etc may not be the greatest of subject matter. But a set measuring 10 x 5 meters painted wilst hanging off the side of a derilict building. I gotta love that
That's something that grabs my attention, admiration and appreciation. Is that not what this scene is all about or are people too busy sat around booking flights to LA for prints they may not get thier hands on.
Neg away

Cheers bcfc,
I think that scale is always a very impressive attribute to a piece of art, but if not executed that well it looks lame, lack lustre.
If you like scale then you only need to look at Blu's huge pieces that are well executed and meticulously detailed. For me these dont have that factor, they are just large blocks of open colour, that don't say a thing and are in essence just a large tag.
Painting a whole house white would do more for an area than these.

Permission To Paint???, by mydeaddogwontwoof on Aug 21, 2007 18:19:12 GMT 1, yeah, yeah, yeah !, alright already!, ok, i can see this stuff brightening up some of londons choice locations, yes its big, yes its bright, but change the record!, would be nice to see something a little different than BIG TEETH!, ok, when i first saw this stuff i thought it was a bit different, + it made me laugh!, all good!, but that novelty has now worn off, Frankie, there is no question the guy has talent, and that canvas is more to my liking than the big cartoony style on the buildings, but i dont know how he can diversify other than adding braces, (retainers, for those stateside!) or something similar to his work!, his name confirms his tooth fetish and i think he would be quite happy to make his mark painting gnashers and little else, but, come on toof, stop the rot and show us what else you can do!, (however, living in the midlands, i think the stuff i have seen by him may be a small percentage of what he has actually done, so if anyone has any pics of any non tooth orientated stuff, would be nice to see!)
