Purchasing from forum members overseas, by fedjarojnik on Aug 23, 2007 16:56:11 GMT 1, Greetings to all, i am new to this forum and was wondering how other forum members handle purchases with members overseas.
Any good or bad experiences, people you would buy from or wouldnt, or tips for piece of mind.
I understand forum members build up a certain level of trust over time, but would be interested in hearing your suggestion on how to proceed....
thanks to all in advance, fedja

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by Harveyn on Aug 23, 2007 17:14:52 GMT 1, Overseas or not it comes down to honesty and trust (in both directions).
Organics1 and myself have been having a little google issue were my funds have been withdrawn and google have withheld them from him.
He has kindly shipped the canvas to me today whilst this 4 figure transaction is still in limbo (in a crate a shipped over to him on Monday).
What an absolute star. Why did he do this? Because we have had previous dealings and have both used communication and a helpful approach to develop trust.

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by dave313perry on Aug 23, 2007 23:03:33 GMT 1, Good question and very much open to debate, as far as i know there is no possible way of being 100% sure. Best to cover yourself in everway possible
Paypal offers cover if you dont receive but the fees are a stinger! The courier needs to cover the value of the print incase of damage Just dont wire transfer into someones bank and no western union for gods sake! especially to a Nigerian!!
Get to know the seller a little if you can, its upto them to make you feel comfortable with the sale, especially if its outside ebay
Good luck, sorry i couldnt be more specific!

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by Photoxtc on Aug 23, 2007 23:19:02 GMT 1, I buy stuff from overseas all the time and only had one bad shipping experience where the guy ripped me off on shipping cost but you live and learn... other than that, all good and the member (Well Respected) that I buy stuff from on this board is top notch.... so it just comes down to trust and the reputation of your seller....

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by tokyojeff on Aug 23, 2007 23:22:33 GMT 1, In dealing with established Forum members with high posting #'s, your in safe hands. If you go through old threads you can see who has a track record of sales or trades and get a feel for how these things work. Many sellers accept PayPal but prefer wire transfers as the cost is usually lower and the buyer usually pays this. I have made quite a few transfers this month to various Forum members with no problem whatsoever. I did my homework and checked with a few established members if they knew this person and if he/she was reputable. I would say if you have any concers or questions just post a thread like this one and there are sure to be many who will be of help to you. Oh and welcome to the Forum !

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by justinkase on Aug 24, 2007 1:01:47 GMT 1, Make sure it's someone who spends a decent amount of time on here that other members respect and have heard of. If that person is willing to ruin his name over a couple grand he/she is an idiot...not to mention will be blackballed.
All of my dealings thus far have been super smooth. Let's hope it stays that way.

Come on what kind of "advice" is this? Seriously, only a naive fool would believe this is truly safe. Fact is, unless you're doing a face to face transaction the safest route is ebay. At least theres some means for id verification and theres some form of insurance. On a forum you got nothing but hope that the art arrives. This scene is dealing with big bucks and you better believe theres many scammers lurking. In addition, 90% of the stuff that appears for sale here is equal or more than what its going for on ebay. You can have a dozen "good" deals on a forum but all it takes is one miserable deal...
That said I wish people all the best just remember to TAKE EVERY PRECAUTION IMAGINEABLE.
oh anybody interested in a signed white morons?

If a con artist is a few grand richer, he/she won't be worried about some internet forum bods slagging him/her off, will he/she? He'll be laughing all the way to the local Network Q.

I'm sure if you asked the seller if they could provide some references they would.
Paypal's fees are high but its the fastest and the easiest way out there, would never give someone bank account numbers to wire anything into.

Purchasing from forum members overseas, by justinkase on Aug 24, 2007 6:32:03 GMT 1, I would rather do a deal with a forum member who I've heard of than pay ebay and paypal fees. Fuck that shit. Let's cut right to the chase. Has ANYONE on here had their money swindled from them in a deal? Would love to know. I bet the percentage of this is extremely low.

You are right bobby there is alot of scammers out there and you do always have to be carefull, but i have done loads of deals with people from this forum and wa@@candy and have found everyone to be completly honourable, everyone is always very quick to tell you what a bad world it is but in my experience 99% of people are honest and bend over backwards to do a smooth deal

I agree. In fact here is a list of the people I have dealt with here (buying, selling and trading) all of which have gone very smoothly. Some of these have been through dealings on the charity art auction I organised a while ago. This is off the top of my head so if I have forgotten anyone please just shout up and remind me:
Thomas Tylerdurden1 brut carl bombhugger uglyiq user reados ripper1331 cbl frankie3 neutral jjoschi retrocanvas saltandiron johnstonamerica mred hardcanvas ABC Rat Macdee romanywg countjedi abdoujaparov toliver
As I say there are others, I just can't remember them right now. In addition there are plenty of other forum members who I haven't specifically had dealings with but would vouch for them.
