Been a lurker here for around 12 months hoovering up bits of interesting info without having contributed anything myself... however this has now changed with this spam-lite posting. Hopefully this is in the right section and it's cool? Everyone on here seems to have opinions about modern culture and are interested in things that a bit different so I do think it might be up your street....
Me and a friend have been putting together an A5 landscape magazine called Bonafide over the past 18 months. The mag is dedicated to innovators and originators in hip hop and modern culture in the spheres of art and design, music, fashion and politics. Befitting the subject matter we have also made sure the design of the mag is plain dope.
The debut tome features heavy interviews with design heads Ehquestionarkmark? (responsible for amazing artwork graff/street art esque record packaging for the Lex music label), George Dubose (one of the og hip hop photographers who has worked with everyone from Madonna to the Ramones to Biz Markie), Answer clothing label (networked up with BAPE, MoWax and the like), DJ Vadims supergroup One Self (Vadim and co talk about radio policy on music censorship, record label politics and graff) , Burnley's DJ Woody, Kool Keith etc etc. There are also like hearted features such as Dress Like 50 cents for 50 pence, the evolution of DJ Jimmy Savile into DJ Timmy Westwood. Artwork has also been kindly by supplied by Eelus too.
Further info can be found at
www.bonafideuk.com www.myspace.com/bonafidemagazine
We've ploughed alot of time into the project and are looking to get it seen by as many people as possible. Also - without being too hard sell - we would like to rack up a few more sales as we've 1800 copies sitting in the spare room and a) could with getting the space back b) it's all self financed and have a bank loan to pay off at somepoint! We do think £3 inc p+p is a bit of a bargain for something as nice as this but we'll let you make up your own minds.
Thanks for your time people, if anyone has any feebback let me know
Big tens

Magazine launch, by griffinj1980 on Jul 22, 2007 19:43:03 GMT 1, Cheers for the feedback and purchases, much appreciated.
The sacred grail of mags was Level as far as we are concerned; a great read and fantastic layout. That's our blueprint really. Insightful, interesting journalism with a hint of satire thrown in presented in knockout fashion. George Dubose who contributed ended up buying 10 copies for his artworld chums in Berlin. Can't get a better endorsement than that.
Also major props to Ehquestionmark who are having an exhibition in Bristol soon

BTW I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this before but one of mags I have sitting on my shelves is a Big Daddy (no it wasn't that kind of mag) issue 07 from back in the day which features a 5 page interview with a certain Robin Banks. I'm not what the date of the mag is as they never had any dates on them due to irregular release dates. By the images i'd say it's circa Turf War. If this is news to people I can scan it in and send it as a low res PDF if someone want's to put it up some place.

Magazine launch, by griffinj1980 on Jul 23, 2007 21:35:40 GMT 1, EXCLUSIVE BANKSY INTERVIEW ALERT!!!!!
Nah I wish. But just to say I've scanned in the Big Daddy/Shok 1 Banksy interview from back in the day. It was really interesting to go back to it and contextualise where we are at now and understand how he's become such a legend. Those of a fragile dispostion may wish to look away when he dicusses both prices and those lovely canvases included in the article. I can only hope Shok 1 swapped a few things with him...
On the subject of lost Banksy articles if anyone wants to play Christopher Columbus and go looking for treasure I recall that the Guardian years ago did two articles in the G2 supplement on him. (This was before he got big enough for them to wheel out Jonathon Jones to get his claws out). One was about him putting up a big poster/banner that subverted Micky Mouse outside a hotel in the US the other was one when someone kidknapped his parody of Rodins the Thinker and the Guardian journalist was brought into mediate between the two parties for it's safe return. My memory is a bit hazy on both these counts but I'm sure someone can fill in the gaps and that the articles will be about someplace.
For all those who have bought a copy of the mag, thank's for showing love. For all those who ain't copper up!
Nice one holmes
