Help please..., by nikki27 on Jul 16, 2007 14:30:26 GMT 1, Ive come across this painting, it was found in a loft it was given to me and to be honest its not my kinda thing, just wondering what to do with it. Somebody actually seemed to put a lot of time and effort into it and it seems such a shame to just throw it out. I dont know any thing about it, it just had a small note attached to the back " Countess Hassington by reynolds, copied by Charlotte Best Pinsent Nee Sharpe 1819 - 1904, Hush Nettletons Great great grandmother" Any idears on the best way to get shot of it? Or should i just throw it on the scrap heep? All surgestions welcome (sorry sorry badbad spelling i know)

Help please..., by insite on Jul 16, 2007 14:35:46 GMT 1, Don't know where you'd start but don't bin it, 20 years ago when we cleared my Nans house we found some old prints, awful couldn't imagine anyone liking them. We sent all her furniture and tat to auction the only stuff to get any interest was the prints, about £40 each and I would have binned them.

Help please..., by mcnuts on Jul 16, 2007 14:58:43 GMT 1, Looks like a copy of "Jane, Countess of Harrington" . Try a google image search
Sir Joshua Reynolds. Jane, Countess of Harrington. Detail. 1775. Oil on canvas. 236 x 144 sm. Earl and Countess of Harewood, Harewood House, Yorkshire, UK.
I do agree. Perhaps some auction house might take it. Worth a shot! Alternatively, track the family down and give them the piece. Could be fun to play detective

Help please..., by Curley on Jul 16, 2007 15:32:52 GMT 1, i agree with mcnuts on this, try and track the family down as they may reward you for finding their Countess. i'm sure theres an interesting styory as how she ended up in the loft.
If nothing else at least give it to the national portrait gallery as they maybe be interested in looking up its history.

Help please..., by Strange Al on Jul 16, 2007 15:49:32 GMT 1, Nikki - I really wouldn't consider selling it on Ebay until you've found out a little more about it.
It's going to be very difficult for you to generate interest in your ebay auction unless you know how to describe the piece properly.
I'd try your local auction house as your first port of call. They normally have free valuation days.
