LA Set, by Cocteau 101 on Jul 9, 2007 19:57:38 GMT 1, Just wondering how many of the 100 sold in LA were sold as sets of six and if anyone on here has one. I bought a set off someone who had been to LA for the Barely Legal show and was wondering how many people picked up a set or individual prints.
Also peoples views on the LA prints i.e. Morons has a gold frame - that points to the message rather than the electronic numbers which are virtually illegible.
And finally what do you reckon on current value for a complete set, I won't tell you what I paid (but it was significantly above cost).

LA Set, by peggysue on Jul 9, 2007 22:42:29 GMT 1, Since POW are releasing these prints one at a time, I'm guessing a complete set with matching numbers are going to be extremely sought after in the near future?

LA Set, by tadghostal on Jul 9, 2007 23:02:19 GMT 1, The problem that you run into with trying to sell a complete set is the total and complete lack of capable buyers. Seems like most Banksy buyers these days pick up pieces as they can due to financial constraints. If the LA set has, what--6 images?--and most of the signed are currently going for 3-4k, then you have a problem. The pool of people that are interested, willing and able to spend that much for a single print is relatively small. When multiplied 6 times over, and a premium added for the complete/matching numbers set, that group of buyers shrinks--and fast.
Besides, few people really care for all of the LA images, so buying a complete set means you're paying a premium for something that violates rule #1 of buying art--buy what you like.
To tell you the truth, you'd really only have one way to find out what its worth and that would be to put the lot up for sale.

LA Set, by tadghostal on Jul 9, 2007 23:28:09 GMT 1, You know, I was looking at a set back in February, and having done some research I concluded that there was in the ballpark of 20 complete sets that had been sold. Unfortunately, it would take quite a while to backtrack and figure out where that number came from, but it is fixed in my mind with relative certainty so I trust it is close to accurate.
Cool set.

LA Set, by justinkase on Jul 9, 2007 23:28:47 GMT 1, I completely agree on buying what you like. And personally, I'm not blown away by all the images. I think Morons works better in all white. Will be interesting to sell the color version of trolleys. But for the hardcore collector, I'm sure the complete set will be very inticing. Wouldn't be surprised if a set was listed with a big auction house someday soon.
My (random) guess is that there are probably less than 50 complete sets. You can count me in as one of them.

LA Set, by Ågent ßacardi on Jul 10, 2007 18:41:37 GMT 1, The first print to sell out (Applause) sold out within about 40 minutes after the prints went on sale, so I would image that there couldn't have been more than 20 complete sets that were sold during that time. 40 minutes may seem like a long time, but this was a physical queue were only one person was served (very slowly, I might add) at a time, and many of those people who bought within the first 40 minutes didn't get entire sets (like myself).
What I do know though, is that people who bought entire sets all got matching numbers that were closest to 50 as possible (the numbers started from 51). I saw a guy who bought only 1 print, and his number was in the 80's... which means that the complete sets were sold before that, and probably stopped around the 70's. (Am I making sense?)

LA Set, by worlddomination on Jul 10, 2007 20:04:44 GMT 1, A point to remember though with the LA set is that the print quality is far better than that of POW prints, also as there are differences in the prints themselves then in the long run that should add to their value. I am slightly biased of course as i have two sets of the printers proofs that are all signed by the man himself and have the Modern Multiples and POW stamp!

Quality is personal opinion I think, I prefer the POW Applause, although the US one has more contrast and richer blacks it has in fact lost detail by 'filling in' so I could argue on a technical point that the POW is more 'open' and detailed.

LA Set, by peggysue on Jul 11, 2007 21:03:27 GMT 1, You are one lucky person Brooksy. TWO sets? How did you manage that? A friend of mine has the LA Morons print and I've gotta say the quality is far superior than the POW one that I have. I'm talking about the print itself and not the image. What do you reckon a complete set is worth? Let alone a signed set?

Be sure you're good and sauced before answering. When you're drunk, you'll see the genius in this deal that a sober person would miss entirely.
