Is this okay? , by Catwoman on Jul 5, 2007 18:18:52 GMT 1, I was scouting around ebay as one does when fedup with looking aty POW and came across this 270139870599 - at 500 pounds i thought it was a bit sharp ( the last bulligdon canvas went for 72 pounds a few weeks ago) and emailed the seller asking if there was room for offers and got the following response!
'The original oil painting which was commissioned by BBC newsnight, was not put on ebay and I still have it. I made a series of giclee prints because there has been some interest in the original which is currently not for sale'
As far as i can tell, this seller has just made his/her own giclees! what do the forum think? Im not impressed...

Also this has nothing to do with elliot's work which was based on this image.

Is this okay? , by scoobywilldoo on Jul 5, 2007 18:25:39 GMT 1, As I understand it, even if the artist sells an original piece, he still retains copyright. This copyright stays with the artist or, upon his death, it it retained by his estate for seventy years after his death. After seventy years the copyright is relinguished.

True, unless the original artist sells the copyright (which is very rare)

Is this okay? , by mydeaddogwontwoof on Jul 5, 2007 18:31:23 GMT 1, This is somewhat confusing! (to me anyway!), it looks as though Newsnight have commissioned this piece and Elliot has taken the image and doctored it to create his take on it, and this is the canvas that you saw on e-bay, (elliots version), anyone know if this is the case?

Is this okay? , by corblimeylimey on Jul 5, 2007 18:36:01 GMT 1, Ahhhhhh
I see it all clearly now, the ebay seller is the artist, she's reproduced her own painting, which is based on a photograph which was commissioned by the BBC, as a giclee and framed it, fair enough, it all makes sense now, if Dan Baldwin can charge £500 + for a giclee then it's fair to assume Rona can too.

EDIT Rona has produced an oil painting from a photo, and elliot has produced a screen print from the same photo but he altered it.
