easton art trail, by saajid22 on Jul 1, 2007 15:23:53 GMT 1, just got back from the art trail, some really nice stuff, b4 it started to piss it down and had to run for cover. it's a bit weird just walking into peoples houses, took a bit of getting used too. everyone was really friendly. easton has a bit of a bad reputation, but actually it's about the friendlest place i know of in bristol. very multi cultural and laid back. there has been some nasty incidents over the years ,but i don't know anyone that has had trouble in easton. generally it's drug issues that get resolved violently and if your not involved then you don't have anything to fear. the most dangerous place in the world is your own home. well it is for me anyway, got a fearsome wife and the kids are crazy too.

easton art trail, by Adamski on Jul 2, 2007 7:54:04 GMT 1, Easton is just like any other part of town, you can find trouble and you can avoid trouble. I used to live in St. George, just round the corner. Don't go round alone at night, but then don't go round alone at night in Clifton either, it's just common sense.
Easton is a great multi-cultural part of the city with some really down to earth people.

easton art trail, by saajid22 on Jul 2, 2007 9:13:39 GMT 1, apart from Brigthon street in st pauls there are no places in Bristol to avoid. i have already said this, but the most dangerous place in the world by far is your own home. so many peole get abused by family members/partners, i would say you are by far safer walking the streets of bristol at night than staying at home and watching 'the bill'. buddings bristol is a wicked city m8, you'll love it here.

easton art trail, by Hugs on Jul 2, 2007 10:42:51 GMT 1, Good and bad everywhere,St Pauls and surrounding areas have a bad rep from the past but all thats changed on the whole. I'm from north of the river and to be honest didnt venture down them there parts very often but have to say i was very suprised when i did. The whole area down there is so far removed from the image of the past now, lots of money been spent and areas are now very safe on the whole. It's also a grat area to wander and look at the Graff, they seem to be very tolerant of the whole scene around those parts, you just need to be sensible where and when you go as is the same with all cities wherever you are in theis big old world. Don't stay away from anywhere,go there at different times of day etc and get a feel for the place, certain areas of Bris are far worse than Easton and they dont have the rep that St Pauls/easton etc have...think Hartcliffe/Knowle west are far worse IMO.

Totally agree with this. Yeah there are leafier, 'quieter' parts in Bristol but you won't find a stronger sense of community than places like Easton, Totterdown, St. George etc.
I'm happy to live where I do for that sense of community I get. If something happened to me in the street I would rather live somewhere where people would come out to help, than somewhere full of curtain twitchers and 'i'm all right jacks' who would do nothing. Just my twopence.

easton art trail, by saajid22 on Jul 2, 2007 13:29:56 GMT 1, buddings, you'll be living in between st pauls and easton. i work a 2 minute walk from their. perfect for student life. you'll also be a stones throw from the Mild Mild west and around the corner from all the gerat grafitti on wilder street. also really good art cinema(the cube) that as well as showing class films, has great gigs. loads of art studios nearby too. what are you going to be studying?

easton art trail, by Adamski on Jul 2, 2007 15:49:48 GMT 1, Congrats on the Uni placement Buddings, If you're down at the Bower Ashton campus of UWE you'll have a great time, seems like an eternity ago, but I did my design degree down there, great place and really creative (surprising for an art campus, I know!).

Once saw a jan svankmeyer retrospective in the Bristol Watershed as part of the animation festival nearly 20 years ago, and the man himself was there.
