Ebay Price Jump?, by Daniel Silk on Jun 22, 2007 15:56:00 GMT 1, Will those pieces that sold at Sotheby's this week effect the prices on ebay?
I should think it will make a bit of difference what do you think?

Ebay Price Jump?, by manchestermike on Jun 22, 2007 16:19:42 GMT 1, I think it will... the sales are showing the Art market that Banksy is here to stay which in turn will lead to strengthening of prices again. No records broken as there were no spectacular stand out pieces this time.

It was interesting seeing how the auctioneer was reacting to the prices the Banksy's reached Even when they went for less than most of the other pieces in the auction they still seemed to make a big deal of it ;D

Ebay Price Jump?, by carlito on Jun 22, 2007 16:27:43 GMT 1, the news surrounding these sales increases the numbers looking on Ebay for a Banksy bargain ... so yes I'd have thought prices continue to rise particular for unsigned as the 'realign' with signed works...and of course whenever Ebay prices jump...you can bet gallery prices do too

Ebay Price Jump?, by bond on Jun 22, 2007 16:31:17 GMT 1, definitely - prices started to rise after the LA show , and again with each print since grannies
The recent auctions always seem to cause another rise so i think that the sales this week and the coverage will just lead to more and more increases
just look at what's happening to unsigned prints over the last 10 days or so

Ebay Price Jump?, by adrscib on Jun 22, 2007 18:49:07 GMT 1, ydays pie face canvas did break a record as it went for around 190k and was very small... the think tank was 290k but it was huge... so i say the pie face is the most expensive canvas ever sold... imagine 50cm x40cm... for 190k..
todays canvases were 122cm x 100cm (large comapred to yday) but sold for 120-130k exclud premium... and plenty of buyers...
so defintely price rise in the offing.
JMHO

Sorry this is laughable... the value of a work is not determined by it's selling price divided by its size.

Ebay Price Jump?, by tadghostal on Jun 22, 2007 19:05:19 GMT 1, Modern/contemporary art is an invention of intellectuals and art-schools that realized they couldn't keep foisting the same s**te off on customers--it was a response to their own impending irrelevance, and a desire to maintain some economic credibility. Street art, on the other hand, is an authentic response of artists to the world around them--it is raw, visceral, and an extremely relevant/potent expression of humanity.
Frankly, I have been thinking that Banksy is over-hyped quite a bit, but when surrounded by his contemporaries and particularly the other luminaries of "modern/contemporary art," it seems to me that the adoration, admiration and appreciation of Banksy is going to have much more staying power due to its intrinsic appeal. And because of that, it does appear that there is much, much more room to go--particularly for the originals.
If you think about the feeling you get from looking at a piece of art (or any type of memento), it is always the piece that was produced with emotion that stirs you inside. Intellectual art is boring as hell. At least to me. You know, I'd almost suggest that Banksy is as close as any visual art can come to rock and roll. As soon as people see it, they just get it (and dig it).

Ebay Price Jump?, by trowel on Jun 22, 2007 19:35:54 GMT 1, The Sotheby's sales won't make a difference. The new Glastonbury pieces may. Hopefully he's building up to his traditional Q3/Q4 blitz.
