blogs.guardian.co.uk/art/2007/06/the_national_gallerys_grand_to.html

Just wondering if the frames are any good? Well secured to the wall etc..........

Free frames in London, by paul1066 on Jun 14, 2007 11:10:44 GMT 1, I walk through Walkers Court every morning to get to work (honestly!!), so have passed the Caravaggio and ‘The Ambassadors’ on Berwick Street a couple of times. The print itself is very good quality, however the frame itself looks totally shite and cheap. They also look as if they are screwed in and secured immensely well, would be very impressed if anyone is able to get away with one, good luck......

Free frames in London, by Curley on Jun 14, 2007 11:42:11 GMT 1, i saw this yesterday as well and i'm glad you mentioned it.....i thought it was a very clever idea if not a steal from the street art fraternity.
Banksy trys to get his stuff in the galleries and the galleries are claiming the streets, the irony of it all. Lets hope that banksy will start by turning them into crude oils... ;D

Free frames in London, by Strange Al on Jun 14, 2007 12:48:44 GMT 1, you know thats going to happen.
Art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon, said the new initiative was a "creative and innovative billboard campaign" to remind people what a great resource the National Gallery was.
"Anything Banksy can do, the National Gallery can do better".
"I suppose these images do invite Banksy-type interventions, but I'm assured that they are apparently graffitiproof."
The Standard's two cents worth.

Agreed. There's little that's truly graffiti proof given the many different media employed by street artists.
