I'm getting turned off from buying a Banksy :(, by a4mnt on Jun 18, 2007 12:25:52 GMT 1, Luckily for me my first (and only) Banksy is Barcode. I'm a late started unfortunately, but at least I bought my absolute favourite first off. Its since doubled in value, which was a bit of a shock.
Since buying that, I've got totally sucked in to the whole buying of prints thang, made all the more enjoyable by this site. All the prints I buy are solely for hanging or to at least go in the art folder I intend on buying asap. Admittedly though, I have to look at the money that I'm spending as possibly being recoupable again at some point in the future - only for something important though, like buying another flat If i could ever afford it (or find a woman stupid enough to do it with me).
So with all that in mind, I've been wanting to add Pulp Fiction and Queen Victoria to my collection. I didn't want to just buy random Banksy's, only the ones that said something to me.
But the prices are getting so stupid now that it's putting me right off.
I'm sure everyone is kicking themselves for not buying something in the last 6 months and also congratulating themselves for a steal of a buy. I watched a Pulp Fiction go unsold for £800 about 6 months ago. It seemed quite a lot at the time!
Luckily I've snagged myself a few Micallef's along the way so I guess I'm happy to see his prices rising but now realise that everything apart from what I've got is pretty much out of my price range now.
So my point of this post being is that I'm going to try to break the obsession of trying to buy Banksy's - maybe they will become passe at some point - and really appreciate the works of the much more accessible but equally talented artists that are talked about on this forum. If I'm lucky enough to buy any of these artists works at original gallery prices, then even better from the dreaded 'investment' point of view as the popular items will generally triple in value, which, pound for pound, is a much better return than buying a second hand banksy. But for now, I don't want to see the £££ signs, just the lovely art work hanging on my walls.
Good luck to everyone else though still chasing those Banksy's. There's one less person bumping up the prices now though I think.....

I'm getting turned off from buying a Banksy :(, by corblimeylimey on Jun 18, 2007 12:58:25 GMT 1, I know what you mean about the Banksy prices, I'm out of it unless I get one direct from POW.
Lots of other good stuff though, but I don't look at them as investments, sure, I've bought stuff that's doubled in value but on £40 - £70 a 100% mark up isn't a lot anyway and they still cost over £100 to frame (unless they fit in a off the shelf frame). So buy what you like and enjoy them, as for investment you'll never know till after time has passed, some stuff won't go up at all and my best 'investment' turned out to be the one I thought least likely to be (elliot's soupcan).

Thats what I've resigned myself to doing, taking my chances in the bun fight, and if i don't get anything, then at least be philisophical about it.
It's not the end of the world, its not like I'm giving up drinking or anything.

I'm getting turned off from buying a Banksy :(, by mammal2 on Jun 18, 2007 13:13:25 GMT 1, Christ. Don't say such a thing! Three more Banksy to go on POW. Keep your head up and your eyes peeled. You never know whats going to happen, besides the site crashing! Sales End and Trollies are still 2 that I would love to own. Heres hoping that the good lord is looking down on me! (Though to be fair im sure he has more to worry about than a Banksy release. Oi oI

I'm getting turned off from buying a Banksy :(, by dotdot on Jun 18, 2007 13:28:10 GMT 1, Well you could always trade your Barcode - I'm sure you'll have a few folks interested.
Otherwise stay tuned to POW - pick something up if you're (unlike many folks) lucky... then trade for what you want from the past!
cheers

If you are looking for a returnable investment, maybe try looking at some of the other guys coming up at the moment.
D*FACE, AROFISH, BEEJOIR, MANTIS AND MICALLEF - although they are getting pricey.
D*FACE originals are now selling for over £1000 and the prints are at least £300 - £400 for the better ones. I think the new one in a weeks time will be the breaker, i see that one going through the roof.
If your out to make an investment, surely its better buying these now rather than spending 2-3k or more on a banksy for example and then the prices flattening out.
Thats my opinion anyway
