What makes you buy a print?, by streetgirl on Jun 4, 2007 22:55:55 GMT 1, Evenin! Not sure if there's already been a thread about this...apologies if there has....just wondering what people's thoughts are on the new print (which hasn't sold out):
PS: Big shout to Stuey for the beginners guide to posting images. Respect!

What makes you buy a print?, by stuey09 on Jun 4, 2007 23:03:37 GMT 1, Glad you managed to follow my rambled guidelines.
There was something posted on Saturday evening regarding the new print. I ended up buying it and breaking my resolution not to buy anything this month

What makes you buy a print?, by streetgirl on Jun 4, 2007 23:09:28 GMT 1, In which case, apologies for the double thread, don't you just hate that? Thought it was weird that I couldn't see anything about it. Am tempted to buy it but I couldn't decide whether I liked it for what it was or just cause it was a Stef...I've always promised myself I'd only buy a print cos I liked it, not for the possible worth/kudos later down the line. I feel another thread brewing, what makes you buy a print, i.e. would you hold back on a Banksy (available for initial POW fee) if you didn't like it, or purchase it regardless?

What makes you buy a print?, by stuey09 on Jun 4, 2007 23:15:15 GMT 1, If you like it I would buy it. Stef's pictures normally sell out and I don't suppose this will be any different. Next chance to buy it, you'll be lining somebody's pocket on ebay.

What makes you buy a print?, by streetgirl on Jun 4, 2007 23:24:15 GMT 1, That's what I've always tried to do...I have one friend, that literally eats up every new print released by current hot artists or breaking ones...whether he likes them or hates them, just for the name, the original print, the investment. He drives me nuts, moreso cos he can afford them and has a knack of buying everything that moves, before it's moved.

What makes you buy a print?, by nombei on Jun 5, 2007 0:45:13 GMT 1, i've passed on a lot of prints because i didn't like the image enough eventhough i knew the prints would go up in value.
and sadly, i even passed on a number of Banksy prints that i liked because i didn't want to pay 70 GBP for them.....oops.

but are you sure it'll make a profit - seeing as that's why you buy?
(what an enjoyable hobby this must be for u)
for me this image is so / so feel like i've seen it before and this doesn't really add anything

What makes you buy a print?, by corblimeylimey on Jun 5, 2007 11:14:59 GMT 1, Chapp...that's where I am on this print, totally.
I'm getting very choosey in what I buy now, as I'm not buying for investment but for the wall and there's only so much space available.
I've had to think long and hard about a few recently, firstly you've got to like it, but I like a lot of prints, so the next decision is could I live without it or would I regret not buying it, this then leaves a few I must have/can't resist.

you cant buy everything for profit coz its just not possible. Shawly if you like the print uve already made a profit . The street art scene is gonna fall through its own arse at some point and there will 4-5 artists worth having, the rest will be worthless and thats when ppl wil regret buying everything in site, even tho they dont like it. At the minute, my nan could make a stencil of her shit n it would still sell on the bay
+ once upon a time street art was a subculture, which made it popular. But nowa days its mainstreem culture which means within time the bubble will burst and along comes a new subculture.......

What makes you buy a print?, by ell on Jun 5, 2007 13:06:02 GMT 1, i buy if i like it. and of course the price has a huge effect. if theres a print i quite like and its cheap, ill buy it even if i dont love it. if its more expensive i will only buy if i love it. of course theres the investment idea in my head but thats not the reason i buy, its just like an added bonus if the price goes up.

What makes you buy a print?, by slowmo on Jun 5, 2007 13:35:54 GMT 1, In terms of what makes me buy a print, it has to be the image. What I have found is that images I have liked a lot, like insects dead rebel series, have lost the power and impact they once had to me because of artists like Dface continuing the theme and in a way, diluting the message.
Really, now for me to get a print, I am looking for something that is very hard to imitate, so would love to get some Micallef, Sacha Jafri or similar. Less interested in stencil artists these days, but would always buy Banksy as he is the daddy.
The problem I have is that they cost loads of money, a commodity I don't really have a lot of at the moment. I am seriously thinking of trading in most of my prints to start again.

What makes you buy a print?, by streetgirl on Jun 5, 2007 14:30:09 GMT 1, I agree slowmo...the more I indulge my interest in the er arts, the more each purchase feels like getting a tattoo. It took me years to get my first, and it would have been the easiest thing to do to go right back and get a couple more. I hope, that like my tat, most of the prints I buy will be keepers.
