Interesting radio 4 art prog., by andrewd on Apr 26, 2007 17:35:23 GMT 1, I caught a bit of Alvin Hall on radio 4 today at about 3:45 interviewing a 'buyer' for a hedge fund art collector. Alvin Hall has a large collection of art himself and is rather well researched and infectious when he gets going on the subject. I think this may be a series re run as I remember hearing an Alvin Hall interview with a bloke on a basic income who had a one bedroom flat on which every bit of wall and ceiling space was covered in art from major talents. The collector bought what he liked and sold on when he had moved on to other areas funding new purchases. www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/alvinhallartworld You can hit the listen again button at bbc radio 4. Essentially he says that the 'hedge fund' collector isn't really a bad thing and has been around since the 1750's when the Dutch art world was booming. The collector in question has a site www.sendercollection.com Worth a listen for all budding collectors!

Interesting radio 4 art prog., by andrewd on Apr 26, 2007 19:43:33 GMT 1, Certainly extremely impressive. According to the program some of it is 'in two of his large houses' the majority of it is loaned out to galleries. Historically this type of collection starts off in the hands of the ultra rich, e.g. todays supposed bogey men, the big hedge fund manager but is typically more accessible to the public because of how it is displayed. Historical examples include the Courtauld Gallery, ( textile fortune ) Saatchi Gallery ( advertising fortune ) and even the Tate was partially funded from the Tate and Lyle fortune ( sugar etc ).
