dont come moaning to me about your council tax rate, local schools closing, hospitals losing funding or your bins not being emptied. If you don't vote, you lose the right the complain. That's why you should give a f*ck.
Its morons like you, that are the reason we've ended up in the state we are. grow up.

Sorry i have to disagree here, i am not going to spout on about politics but if you dont vote you have no right to complain about what ever party is in power. In the past voter apathy has allowed parties like the BNP to gain footholds in british politics. Is that what we want ?
Just think in the States if everyone had actually made their vote count George Bush may never have got to power, the count was that close in the end. Every vote can make a difference.
Vote for who you like but dont waste it.

Totally agree but then again I have a house and 2 kids with a third on the way, plus I work for the goverment so it would be silly not to vote as they gave me a good pay rise this year .

Anyone bothering to vote tomorrow?, by corblimeylimey on May 2, 2007 14:52:03 GMT 1, I agree with the three posts above, you should be arsed to vote, but having said that I've deliberately spoilt many ballots due to the pathetic system we have and in protest against all the parties. Spoiling your vote is not a waste as it is counted as a vote, if you're in a ward that is and always has a massive majority to one party and you're against that party, then voting for the opposition is a waste, spoil you vote and that takes a vote away from everyone. If enough votes are spoilt the media will see this as a vote against the system, politicians will have to take more notice of a large percentage of spoilt votes than a low turn out.

I learnt it from an old hippie I used to work with. If everyone who couldn't be bothered to vote came out and spoilt there papers BIG questions would be asked about our system.

Well spotted carlito. There is little difference between the main parties. They'll shaft you regardless, because they act in the interests of the media that support them and the doners who provide the funds. Those people are self serving and are not interested in the common voter. So voting gives you the right to complain about the council etc, but your chances of changing anything are about as slim as me getting the next Banksy from PoW.

Anyone bothering to vote tomorrow?, by corblimeylimey on May 2, 2007 15:14:03 GMT 1, The thing with this vote everyone should remember, is that it's local elections, you should be voting on local issues. Apart from my ballot spoiling, when I do vote for a party, I sometimes vote differently on local issues as I do for national issues.
This year I've had direct contact with my local parties over some local issues and found they were all as bad as each other, no one would listen to my (and the majority of people in my area that were going to be affected by their proposed plans) concerns. The Labour party even joined forces with the Conservatives to bulldoze their plans through. It was left up to me to print leaflets, and another angry resident to get a petition organised, the result of which was so powerful (with the local newspaper following the story) they had to back down and scrap their plans.
Victory to the people!!! I'm going to give my local politicians who knock on my door a hard time this year, they'll wish they hadn't.

Anyone bothering to vote tomorrow?, by slowmo on May 2, 2007 16:15:06 GMT 1, Greenwich borough is so labour, no one bothers even trying to petition your vote. I had no idea local elections were tomorrow, have received zero literature from any party and have never had my door knocked, not seen a single poster either. More alarming, the labour Party have an office less than 100 yards from my house, talk about no competition so why bother attitude.
I will vote, but why? I have no idea about any parties local ideas and policies as no one has bothered to make me aware (fair enough its lazy of me not to look into it). Who do you vote for when you don't know anything, the best colour? Maybe the smartest hair cut ;D
I'll have a look in the internet and see what people are offering

Anyone bothering to vote tomorrow?, by tomhills1 on May 2, 2007 17:44:29 GMT 1, i pay almost ยฃ1500 a year council tax. for what? to collect my rubbish? mind you, all those who work for the council could do with a rise.
i'm with CBL, spoil your vote because not one party with any real chance of having any power will do anything to benefit the people specifically in their are. unless it happens to be scotland (tuition fees, nurses), wales (perscription charges), or northern ireland of course.
i know these are local elections but the whole political circus f*cks me right off, green taxes? how are they going to spend them to benefit the environment? why are they looking to expand stanstead airport if air travel pollutes the atmosphere so badly? they're all just a bunch of "do as we say, not as we do" hypocritical, self-aggrandising mercenaries.
none of the above.
