Jonathon ross tonight, by andrewd on Apr 20, 2007 19:54:25 GMT 1, There was a review ( yesterday 19/4/7) in The Times film section of a film about Gilbert and George by some bloke who had 'stalked' ( with consent I think ) them for years and records their life in East London. It was described as an absolute gem and was being shown at the East End film festival last night. I'll be looking out for it if it ever gets a wider release. I've met them at book signings, they are as they appear. I've also heard wilder stories about life in some of the 'edgier' east end bars ( these stories are probably told as a juxtaposition to the formal image ).I was also told ( by a woman who works there )that they have visited the Tate most days since the exhibition started and can often be seen double checking that the pictures and hung just exactly right! Think I'll HDD the Ross show as that way I can just watch Gilbert and George and miss the annoyance that is Ross.

Jonathon ross tonight, by gm on Apr 20, 2007 23:45:35 GMT 1, Rossy wasn't too bad - he's obviously a bit of a fan. G&G came across as a lot less 'serious' than I'd expected them to be (have never seen a filmed interview with them before).
Some good vid clips with them speaking about the Tate Modern exhibition here, if anyone's interested:

Jonathon ross tonight, by corblimeylimey on Apr 21, 2007 13:46:31 GMT 1, I enjoyed seeing G&G last night, no new information but fun anyway.
I agree with gm, they were less serious than they have been.
From JR's press release
Jonathan also welcomes controversial artists Gilbert & George, whose major exhibition is showing at the Tate Modern, who reveal rare insights into their very private life and their own particular habits: "We always have the same dinner, we don't want to waste time choosing food ... we've never been to a concert or opera ... we don't have a radio in the house, it's too soothing ... we don't watch much television [except for] Paul O'Grady ... and we always get Heat and Nuts, we read both."
And for AB

Jonathon ross tonight, by tomhills1 on Apr 22, 2007 21:00:10 GMT 1, are you lot for real? gilbert and george (psuedonyms surely) are the most un-inspiring, contrived excuse for expressionism in the last forty years. i've got an idea, lets paint with sh*t: genius. or not. oh, and we'll include ourselves in all that we do, that will keep it fresh and original. while we're there we'll base ourselves on quintissential britishness, even though one of us is french. me? i can quite happily live without them.
good interview, though i thought they revealed more on steve wright in the afternoon - the big show and all that etc.

Jonathon ross tonight, by corblimeylimey on Apr 22, 2007 21:19:51 GMT 1, I've got to disagree with you lesbianwednesdays I think G & G are fantastic, over the years some stuff is better than others and the look of the art has changed but still keeps their identity.
It's not all shit, piss & semen in fact that only plays a part in a small time scale of their work, some of their work is hilarious IMO
And reading some titles of their works brings a smile, here's a few...
Fuck Cunt Bollocks We're All Angry Bent Shit Cunt Bummed Shag Stiff Cock Cabbage Worship
I could go on, it would be fun to own some of their work just so you can tell others it's title ;D

Jonathon ross tonight, by tomhills1 on Apr 22, 2007 21:26:33 GMT 1, 'tis a good point but after the initial shock value, then what? like i said they are very tweedy but also crass at the same time, but does it really hit you? for me p*ss, sh*t and s*men are their creative peak. not on my walls anyway.

Jonathon ross tonight, by gm on Apr 23, 2007 0:17:52 GMT 1,
I'm far too chubby to be chasing anything these days but I do love a bit of voluptuousity* to moon over... 'specially great big wobbly arses - sometimes I really have to stop myself from reaching out and having a squeeze if a particularly attractive one is sashaying down the road in front of me.
If I let out a few more of my secret(ish) crushes you might really start worrying about me. I'll give you this one to be going on with tho...
(The one in the middle, in case anyone was wondering )
Anyway, back to G&G... A lot of their stuff leaves me stone cold - I'd not want any of the s**t stuff hanging on my walls. Could do without having to look at their arses every day as well (too skinny ) Some of it completely blows me away tho. And love them or hate them, you have to admit that they ARE an institution - their work is instantly recognizable, and they've been ripped off (or 'used as inspiration') many many times. I love their uncompromising attitude and the way they are exactly what they want to be, no matter what anyone else thinks.
And does anyone know where I can get those ant neckties they were wearing on the show?
*I probably just invented that word, but who gives one?
